Last night we went to The Lowry in Salford Quays, Manchester to see Match, based on Hans Christian Anderson’s much loved classic, The Little Match Girl. Match is a magical and uplifting story about a child’s hope, dreams and losses.

The Lowry is extremely easy to get to and well signposted. Easy access for car, bus or metro link visitors. Plenty of nearby car parking spaces available for car drivers. For anyone who enjoys walking you can also take advantage by going for a walk around the quays which surround The Lowry.

Both myself, my mother and my 20 month year old son ended up parking at The Lowry shopping outlet so we could browse the shops and have some lunch at the Harvester which is located on the ground floor of the shopping centre before the show started… plus a bonus parking is free if you buy something from one of the shops or dine at one of the many restaurants or bars.

Once we arrive at The Lowry we were greeted and welcomed by the two men on the ticket desk, there was a slight confusion with the pre-seated tickets as myself and my son where sat several rows back from my mother but that was easily and quickly resolved as I suggested that my son sat on my knee so we could be sat together. We were shown which studio we needed to go to, there are also disability facilities available. As I had my son in his pram I took advantage of the lift facilities as there’s quite a lot of steps up to the studios. I was asked to leave my pram outside the studio for health and safety reasons. The seats where comfy and we had a brilliant view!

The show was roughly an hour long, once the show started we could clearly hear the cast, not only did the cast put on a magical show, they also involved the audience, blowing bubbles, pushing balloons in the air across the audience, we haven’t laughed as much as we did in a long time! Cushions where also laid out on the floor near the stage for children and parents to sit on. We experienced beautifully inventive storytelling, puppetry, song and live music in this spellbinding production.

This is the first show my sons sat all the way through I shall definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for future shows like Match, A very good afternoon and would definitely recommended…
