The Best Friend Boyfriend Theory by Laura Lawrence Review

Reviewed by Laura Fairbairn
I love books and I enjoy reading quite a variety of genres so I was delighted to be asked to read ‘The Best Friend Boyfriend Theory’ – getting into a good book can be a great opportunity to relax!
The Best Friend Boyfriend Theory follows a pair of friends through the ups and downs of their relationship and there are lots of those!
The book is written from the view point of ‘Becks’ who is in her mid-late twenties and has grown up with James – from a very young age they were like brother and sister and have remained close as adults. This does not, however, mean that they are without their ‘issues’ and the depiction of these contributes greatly to the standard of writing and interest in the book. At times it feels as though the story is a predictable and I did question at several points how Becks could have missed certain things that happen in the book, but her naivety probably contributes to her ‘likeability’.
There are obviously other relationships within the story that contribute to the rounded picture of Becks’ life and personality. When her sister crosses a line by breaking a well know ‘unwritten rule’ her loyalty is put to the test and their relationship comes under strain – it is interesting to read how Becks deals with this as it is not one of the predictable pats of the story.
It didn’t take me long to ‘get into’ the book and it was what I would describe as easy reading – it kept me entertained each day on my lunch hour at work and each day I looked forward to reading the next instalment.
I think there is room for a sequel to this book and I would love to read it if it is ever written – the author is a good storyteller.
