It’s that time of year again, when I actually feel real pleasure hunting online and in the shops for the perfect soft toy that will ‘make’ Christmas for the little ones in our world. Not something too small, that will be lost or forgotten, and not so big, that it takes up valuable space in their beds, because that is where their newly gifted soft plushie will certainly end up!

I discovered Hug-A-Lumps Weighted Soft Toys by ZURU, quite by chance, when I was asked to review the toy. Let’s be honest, every child needs a treasured soft toy or ten, especially in the case of my little ones, and all that really matters is that it’s super-soft and perfect for cuddles.
The Hug-A-Lumps medium range (yes, there is a small range for babies and a large range – if you’re perhaps after a much bigger soft toy) includes 11 very, very, soft characters, each being undeniably cute, making them all potential comforting candidates, to take on the coveted role of bedtime buddy. Each of the Hug-A-Lumps weighs in at 1.5kg (3.3lbs) and it’s the weightiness of the plushie that offers a calming sensory experience for your child or young person.
You can choose from a range of colourful characters, where there will be one available to suit every child’s personality, including Panda Pete, Kitty Luna, Lucy Sea Slug, Jess Kangaroo, Graham Billy Goat, Holly Highland Cow, Gigi Giraffe, Clover Cow, Connie Capybara, Ally Axolotl and finally, Lenny Lobster, the Hug-A-Lump who happened to land at our house!
They measures in at approximately 20cm x 60cm x 37cm and they are each crafted from super-soft and squishy plush materials. If I am being completely honest, I can’t stop stroking them! I, personally, just adore the soft velour material, the gorgeous vibrant red colour of Lenny and the fact that the Hug-A-Lumps provide a total anti-stress snuggle experience with the weightiness that is within the toy.
This cute stuffed animal is suitable for any little one aged 3 upwards, making Hug-A-Lumps a perfect playtime companion and offering a degree of comfort when your child is potentially working through some big feelings, which is why they will just adore them.
The word “cute” can be subjective, and it is important to note that there are a few other factors that should be considered when choosing from all the adorable stuffed animals that are suitable for your child.
ZURU is an award-winning company devoted to reimagining what it means to play, they are one of the largest toy companies in the world, distributing to all major retailers in over 120 countries, as well as partnering with entertainment providers, including Disney, Nickelodeon, and Universal Studios. From a safety perspective they tick all the boxes, with UK CA and EU CE safety marks included on the label indicating that the Hug-A-Lump meets UK and EU safety, health and environmental requirements, complying with regulations, which is reassuring.
The only very minor negative issue is that the Hug-A-Lump is not machine washable, however, if it were to become soiled then spot washing the velour with a hot soapy water would likely clean it up nicely!
I would also like to suggest that the Hug-A -Lumps could potentially provide support for a child with sleep problems and they could also be a useful soft toy for children who experience sensory or neurodivergent issues as weighted soft toys can provide comfort and reassurance.
Priced at just £15 the Hug-A-Lumps toys represent great value.
