Feel Good Games: 6 in 1
Reviewed by Rachael Ives
My 5 year old twin boys and I tested out the ‘Feel Good Games: 6 in 1’ from Feel Good Friends. The set comprises of cards with sweet characters, each depicting a different emotion. The cards are nicely packaged and good quality. There are also instructions on how to use the cards in a variety of different ways. There are 6 games in 1 box (Snap, Pairs, Opposites, Charades, Only Roly and My Feeling). The instructions are clear, concise and easy to follow.
We have recently suffered a bereavement and so I thought this would be a great opportunity to try and dig a bit deeper in to how the boys felt and it worked a treat. We started off playing pairs and familiarising ourselves with the emotions and then played charades. Once we had had a bit of fun I seized the opportunity and started to discuss when they last felt happy, what makes them excited etc… and finally lead on to what makes us sad. I was amazed at how quickly the boys opened up and how willing they were to talk. Using the cards enabled them to name their feelings and helped us to explore what we need from each other when we feel sad, in an indirect way. I’m sure the boys just saw it as a game as opposed to ‘Mum going on at us again!’
I can see how these cards would be of great use in an educational setting and also with professions like child counsellors etc… In fact, anyone who has children or who works with children would find these useful. As for me I shall be keep them close and getting a lot more use out of them!
