Subway Horsforth Leeds Review

Reviewed by Kirsty Moorhouse

The new Subway on New Road Side in Horsforth, Leeds is compact but well laid out, with plenty of room for queuing customers and those who wish to eat in.

Even though we arrived in the middle of lunch time, and it was busy, the staff seemed to be completely in control and had no issues keeping up with demand.

This Subway, as all others, is laid out with a buffet style counter over which you tell members of staff your preference for breads, meats, toppings , options for toasting, and sauces. I can honestly say this is one of the few take out venues of this kind where this has been a pain free activity.

The first member of staff we were greeted by was friendly, polite and explained very clearly the options available. My eldest son can be a bit of a ditherer, and even though he took some time to decide, we certainly didn’t feel rushed or like we were causing an inconvenience.

The sandwiches were made just as we had requested and the options available for the children’s ‘Kids Pak’ meal were explained clearly to my middle child, again with no pressure put upon him to speed a decision. The members of staff spoke appropriately to my children with regards to their age and didn’t speak over them to ask me for their decisions. A courtesy to younger children you rarely see and one that is much appreciated.

Seating for about 20 people is placed around the edge of the restaurant, meaning there is adequate seating but still plenty of room for through traffic and lunchtime queues, and we found a seat for 4 of us easily.

Tables are self clear, and although ours had a couple of empty cups on, the staff would not have had time to clear these as the previous customers had just left. Other empty tables looked clean and clear.

The food was lovely (my son declared it was the nicest chicken & bacon sandwich he’d ever eaten!) and what I particularly like is the lack of plastic/polystyrene packaging. The paper wrappers are in my opinion perfectly adequate and produce a lot less waste meaning the self clear bins were not overflowing, even at a busy time.

The huge range of toppings, salad and sauces and refillable drinks means subway can be great value for money, especially the children’s meal, which at £3 for a 4 inch sub, a drink and a choice of crisps or a cookie was more than enough for my 7 year old (my youngest took the cookie with him for later in the little children’s film theme bag they also got as part of the meal deal).

The only thing we found to be a slight issue was parking around the area, due to the selection of shops and banks, can be hard and we did have to loop around to find a suitable spot.

Overall, we had a great lunch, with friendly staff, roomy seating, lovely food prepared just as we had asked and left us all with a full stomach and the children even had a bonus bag to carry their left overs in.

Rating: 4.5/5
