I received a pirate themed birthday party bundle from Perfect Party UK which consisted of a Pirate Ship Pinata (£11.56), Pirate Vest (£2.72), Foam Pirate Hat (£1.13), Pirate Face Painting Kit and Treasure Pirate Costume for age 6-8 years (£15.12).
The pirate ship piñata is very good quality. Most piñatas leave a trail of mess as bits fall off, but the ship remained fully intact for two days before we used it, despite being used as a toy by my 3 year old!
The pirate costume is as well made as any dress up costumes are. The foam hat tore when my 6 year old put it on, so not overly robust! The pirate vest seems pretty pointless in this kit – my daughter ended up using it whilst face-painting the boys but given the extreme v-neck design of the vest, it did little to protect her clothes so I remain unsure of its purpose. I was disappointed to see how small the face paint set was – three 10p sized rounds of red, black and white, with one tiny brush, but it actually went a long way and not much was needed at all to get a good coverage.
Instructions were limited. It would have been very helpful to have an idea of how to use the face paints and maybe some designs to follow rather than just the photo on the packaging which was torn when opening. The Pinata had a robust loop for hanging on top and a sticker saying ‘push here to fill’ which was pretty self-explanatory.
I would certainly get the costume and piñata again if I were doing a pirate themed party, and recommend those parts to others.
The value overall is very good, you pay a couple of pounds over, say supermarket prices, but you can notice the difference from the improved quality of the items.
Children’s feedback, ages 3 to 8: All the children want their next party to be pirate themed one now, and had a great time playing with this lot.
