I was gifted this product to review and was lucky enough to get the Rainbow Sky shell. At first glance it is very eye catching, bright colours and a very fun design.
My 6 year old boy was instantly intrigued by it. He has heard about Tamagotchis but has never played with one before so was very excited!
Delivery was quick within a few days and was pleased there wasn’t loads of additional bags, boxes or stuffing along with it. The box it comes in is quite large for the size of the product but is brightly coloured and definitely eye catching. It was easy enough to get into without the need for scissors or screwdrivers so if you are to buy it whilst out shopping you are able to open it up straight away which isn’t always the case with kids’ toys. Set up was simple as you just pull out the battery sticker and off it goes!

First and foremost, despite this being a ‘kids’ toy’ it is definitely not limited to kids and adults can get as much enjoyment with a wondrous sense of nostalgia if you were lucky enough to have owned one of these when younger.
It is lightweight and perfect for little hands but still easy to use with adult hands.
Made by Bandai, a well known Japanese toy manufacturer and video game company, you can be assured that it is a high quality product and safe to use. It features a ball chain so can be attached to a zipper or backpack securely without fear of losing it.

There are minimal instructions in the box, just featuring the basic commands and enough information to get your Tamagotchi up and running. I have had to Google a lot to understand how to work some of the functions and how to play the games and this is the main reason I have withheld a star and given a 4 out of 5. Here you can find out how it works and what things mean – https://tamagotchi-official.com/us/series/connection/faq/
Once the Tamagotchi is switched on, you start with an egg which soon hatches and you discover if you have a girl or a boy. My son was pleased that we got a boy which he called ‘Wood’ haha! There are minimal games and things you can do with your new pet until they grow older but we enjoyed feeding and toileting the baby, along with giving praise. You can put them in time out as well which my son seems to enjoy doing!
As the pet grows up, more features are available including putting on clothes, more games to play and more items are available. As you play games you earn money that you can spend in the ‘shop’ on your device.

We’ve not tried it as yet but you are able to link with other Tamagotchis which is a good incentive to buy more or recommend to friends to buy too. Maybe you could gift one to a friend and make full use of the features?!
I am pleased to say that our pet ‘Wood’ is still alive and happy but if it were to die, a new egg is hatched and you can start over.
Also, if for any reason the device loses power / needs a new battery – it saves the data so you don’t have to start all over again.
I feel it’s great for kids as gives them a sense of responsibility and can see their impact on their pet as you can see how happy and hungry they are. My 6 year old loves it, my 9 year old wants one as well now and as an adult, I am thoroughly enjoying it too! I would definitely recommend for anyone!
