The Grand Opera House in York is easily accessible with bus stops and parking close by. We parked in the Castle car park which was just a couple of minutes walk away from the theatre and the parking is £2 for unlimited evening parking, which can be paid by coins or card payment.

The theatre is in a good condition and clean throughout the building. The staff members I encountered were all friendly and helpful. There was a good sized bar area selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and there were further bars and refreshment areas in different parts of the theatre. There are a number of different toilet facilities and some are a little run down and others appear to have been refurbished recently but the ladies in particular had large queues during the interval.

Our seats were in row C of the dress circle and we had a good amount of leg room and an excellent view of the whole stage. We were there to see Legally Blonde the Musical and having never seen the film or the musical before, I had no idea what to expect when I sat down. The show started a little after 7.30pm with a very upbeat flamboyant song “Ohmigod you guys” and we meet the very girly Elle Woods expecting her boyfriend Warner to propose to her. Instead of a proposal, Warner informs Elle he is going to Harvard law school and will be breaking up with her. In her pursuit of love, Elle also gets accepted at law school and we see her transform from being the joke of the class to winning a high profile court case with a little help from her new friend Emmett, whilst remaining true to herself.

Legally Blonde’s songs are all super catchy and sung spectacularly and Maya Tether plays the lead role with such energy whilst Jo Theaker plays the part of Paulette wonderfully. The entire cast gave really excellent performances with energy and smiles on their faces throughout.

It’s a very fun show to watch and it’s fantastic to see all the actors genuinely enjoying themselves on stage and you will leave with a big smile on your face!
