I attended Willows Activity Farm in St. Albans with 4 of my children. When we parked up and wandered to the entrance, the props leading up to the entrance had the kids hopping and running about excitedly.

We were greeted by the lovely lady who took our tickets and gave us a map and planner explaining what was on that day.

My youngest was eager to go into Toddler Town, where there was a wonderful animated show on stage that he got to start by pressing the button, we then moved on to JCB world and they all had a go riding around in a large gazebo filled with mini JCB diggers, tunnels and even a filling pump.

Whilst there we experienced the tree house adventure, country funfair, where the kids enjoyed rides on the dizzy pets and merry go round, had a bounce on each of the 3 the bouncy haystacks and took many turns on the carousel. The big dig sand pit that they have was fantastic for the younger children, the sand and water kept my lot busy for half an hour.

The old time swing boats were a delight to see, as were the coconut shy and football game that we all enjoyed.

We panned for gold in the gold stream, where you get a medal for getting 8 pieces of gold from the refreshment kiosk that’s close by.

We also managed to catch Curly’s show, which had the kids up and bopping along with curly the pig, the show was engaging, energetic and even had us adults swaying along to tunes we knew.

At £1 for 2 bags of animal feed we enjoyed feeding the seemingly happy goats and sheep in the feeding area, all the animals looked well and well loved.

We had numerous toilet breaks whilst there and was very impressed to find that most of the toilets were large enough to fit a buggy inside, as well as manoeuvre round lots of little bodies, and were all spotless.

There were lots of seating areas scattered around the farm, all of which had covers over! Thankfully the rain stayed off whilst we were there, but I can imagine these on occasion have been a godsend to many.

The general appearance of the farm was very clean and well kept, the staff I engaged with were very helpful and friendly.

When the weather was a bit too cold, we popped into Woolly’s Play Barn for a bite to eat and a warm up, the place was packed with families, but we eventually found an empty table. At £4.95 for beans on toast we decided on pick and mix sandwich lunches, as I waited in the line to pay for the 4 half sandwiches and mini cheeses and drinks (£8.50 for 10 items) noticed many flies hovering over the uncovered cakes, a member of staff briefly waved her hand over them, then walked off to check her makeup, meanwhile the flies came back and I opted out of cakes for afters. This was the only problem I discovered the whole day there.

I would recommend Willows Activity Farm to those with children under 10; it was a pleasant day out and quite magical for the little ones.

At £13.50 for adults and £14.50 for children at peak times, it really is value for money, especially given that all the rides and activities are included in the price.

However Woolly’s restaurant and gift shop were slightly over priced and food needs to be covered rather than left out in the open.

Rating: 4/5
