My husband and I have just had a lovely meal out at Zizzi in Cabot Circus, Bristol. What a fantastic venue in a brilliant location. Easy, cheap parking is just across the link bridge as this restaurant is located on the top floor of the Cabot Circus Shopping Quarter. The top floor of Cabot Circus is all about your enjoyment – the restaurant is nestled amongst other large chain restaurants and also next to a cinema – perfect for a pre/post film meal.

We were seated quickly in a great spot – right by the windows which look out onto the shopping walkways – perfect for people watching. The venue was busy, our table was booked for 6pm on a Spring Saturday evening, the clientele was a mixture of couples and families who’d enjoyed a busy days shopping, and then as the evening went on, less people with shopping bags were evident, and more people who were out for an early evening meal.

Our waitress, Maggie, appeared a short while after we’d been seated to ask if we would like to order some drinks, we did so and we were also offered some water for the table which was a nice touch. We were also ready to order our food at that stage as we both had an idea of what we wanted from looking at the menu online before getting to the restaurant – I love venues where you are able to have a nosey at the menu before your sat at a table – you can check there is something you’re going to enjoy, but it also makes my mouth water even more just thinking about what I might order! Zizzi has just launched its Spring Menu with quite a number of new dishes. All of their recipes use the freshest seasonal ingredients, with many of the new dishes being suitable for those looking for “lighter” choices – great if that perfect Summer body is a work in progress!

We ordered Arancini and Fonduta Formaggi for starters, and what fabulous choices they were – the Arancini are balls of risotto with mozzarella in the middle, rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried, got to admit they are definitely one of our favourites after we first tried them in Rome, many years ago! They came with a peperonata dip which complimented them beautifully. The Fonduta was also stunning in its presentation (on a wooden platter) and taste, the cheese was almost bubbling hot and the bread sticks and focaccia made for a very tasty vessel to dip into the cheese.

For main course my husband ordered Pollo Prosciutto which was accompanied by green beans and Tuscan potatoes, this was actually one of the many healthier options on the menu – another thing which is very useful for those who might need it, is full dietary information for each dish is also listed on Zizzi’s website. The chicken was lovely and he enjoyed his choice. I went for one of the new spring items on the menu – the Rustica Trentino Fresca, which is one of Zizzi’s signature pizza’s – with a twist – the toppings are added after the pizza base has been cooked (this information was on the menu but was reiterated on ordering just to make sure I was happy with this) – giving it a very fresh taste – perfect for Spring! I was interested to see it this actually worked as a concept – a de-constructed pizza with a hot / cold mix – it did work I’m pleased to report and was very enjoyable – it almost felt healthy – all those tomatoes and rocket leaves – but then I’ve just looked up the calorie content on the Zizzi website and hmmm… It didn’t quite have the same calories as a salad…

Anyway, moving away from calorie contents – we both went for a dessert! Unfortunately one of the new Spring desserts wasn’t available – the Lemon Meringue Sundae, but we were told about this as we were given the dessert menu so at least we hadn’t set our hearts on it, my husband went for another new “spring” item – The Chocolate & Toffee Nut Sundae, I went for the Vanilla Pannacotta with red berry compote – both went down a treat – finishing the meal wonderfully.

We were both nicely full at the end of our visit to this lovely venue.  It was a very relaxed evening and we enjoyed attentive but not intrusive service from Maggie our waitress.

All in all a lovely visit with lovely food, great menu choices and food in a clean modern restaurant. We would definitely visit again – and am sure we will as the location is just so convenient right in the centre of Bristol’s premier shopping quarter. I would give our whole experience a 5 out of 5.
