Zebrano Carnaby is a Cocktail Bar, Club and Restaurant set in the midst of Carnaby Street London. Carnaby Street is packed full of bars and restaurants and Zebrano occupies a prime position right in the centre. As expected on a typical Thursday night near Oxford Circus it was extremely busy in the area adding a great vibe to the location.
On arrival at 7.30pm the bar area was already packed, they have a happy hour every day which lasts between 3 and 7 hours depending on day of the week and location, and the restaurant area was almost full. We were received quickly and with a warm and friendly smile and greeting and were soon sitting in a prime position in the window. Unbelievably for October it was warm enough to sit outside still and the windows and doors were open so we were fully experiencing the atmosphere that Carnaby Street is so renowned for.
Cocktail bars may not have a great reputation for quality food but Zebrano and its new menu certainly puts that reputation to the test. Food is very reasonably priced with starters and small bites starting from £3.50 and mains from £9.50. With delights such as crisp baby squid and chicken and chorizo skewer it was hard to make a decision on starters but as I already had my heart set on a steak I thought I would go for something small, choosing a garlic tear and share bread which I thought I’d share with my husband whilst he feasted on chicken satay skewers. As it turned out the bread wasn’t small at all but two large chunks of herby focaccia with balsamic vinegar & olive oil dip. Obviously I couldn’t help but try one of the four tasty chicken skewers with the accompanying satay dip and so I was almost full before the main course!
For main course my husband chose beer battered fish of the day which upon taking the order the waitress helpfully let him know would be cod. I decided on the 10oz sirloin bone in with a peppercorn sauce coming complete with mushroom, tomato and chunky chips. I ordered it to be cooked medium and when it arrived it was juicy succulent and cooked just as id ordered it. The cod was excellent, the batter nice and crispy and accompanied with a lovely thick tartar sauce. To complete the meal we had a glass of house red wine each, competitively priced at £4.95 per glass as unfortunately we were both way too full for desert.
One thing I must mention on the menu is their “sharers”. A choice of four different sharing platters from meat free to American ranging from £16 to £45 depending on the quantity ordered for. These sounded great for a night out with friends especially combined with happy hour.
Zebrano is the perfect place to go to for a great value meal in a buzzing atmosphere either after work or late into the evening followed by dancing in the club downstairs. It certainly seemed very popular with all age groups and with a choice of restaurant of bar food, drinking or dancing there is something for every mood.
We tried Zebrano Carnaby but there is another branch in Soho and one due to open in the city. I highly recommend you try one or all of the locations for a great night out with quality food.
