Three excited children woke up singing, “we’re all going on a yellow submarine” at 7am this morning in anticipation of today’s review. After finally getting everybody in the fun bus, we head the 11 miles to Brunswick Dock where “Liverpool’s leading city family entertainment centre” is situated. On arrival there is ample free parking, with the Rover opposite of you fancy a stretch of the legs after the children have played away a couple of hours. On entering the re epitome area which was staffed by Kimberley, we were greeted with a vast open space with flashing lights which immediately caught the children’s attention. I liked the idea of having lockers in this area as it saves on having to take your personal bits and bobs whilst chasing the children around. Kim was lovely and friendly and was expecting our arrival, she tannoyed for Becki to show us into the play area which she did and pointed out where the toilets were.

My first impressions on entering the play area was that it was large, bright and airy. It appeared to be in a vast hangar type building with extremely high ceilings and brick walls either side. There were 30 circular white tables with 4 red plastic chairs around each, there was also bigger bench like tables situated outside each of the party rooms for parents etc. this was a good idea as you didn’t really notice the party’s going on. The plastic seats were not fantastic and it would benefit from a little bit more variety, maybe some couches or even beanbags. There were a number of white plastic high chairs which were all clean and appeared in a good state of repair.

The décor inside the toilet corridor was manic, bright orange and white swirls much to Thomas’s amusement, he loved it and it definitely encouraged him to keep going back for toilet stops! The toilets, girls and baby change were both clean with a good supply and toilet roll in each.

The excellent décor was continued throughout the play centre with a fabulous large wall art depicting cuddly characters sitting on a variety of building including Big Ben. The great use of primary colours made the centre extremely welcoming. There was a large TV screen above the sitting area which advertised local businesses amongst other things which was also a nice touch. The music playing was a mixture of current and old school tunes which was just loud enough to be heard and enjoyed without being too loud to hear yourself think.

The Under 4’s area was a good size, with a couple of pedal bikes and a small track which the boys enjoyed. The interactive colouring screen was also a hit and a long game of hide and seek was enjoyed in and around the construction area. The over 4’s bit was large and challenging, all three children loved the football pitch and spent ages both kicking the balls around and trying to score baskets. The slides were throughly enjoyed in particular the curly one and the matted area near the climbing wall became their private stage for forward rolls and handstand competitions.

The children enjoyed a large pepperoni pizza priced at £7.95 which was very reasonable. It was extremely cheesy and more than enough for three hungry children, even leaving a piece for me. I had the bang bang chicken wrap which was served with nachos, very very tasty and a good price at £4.50. For drinks it was a mug of tea for myself and lemon and lime slushed for the children all greatly enjoyed. One thing that did surprise me was the café served glass bottles of pop, I certainly don’t think this is a good idea as obviously if one was smashed it could prove potentially very dangerous.

Overall the play centre was welcoming, friendly and loved by my three children, aged 9, 4 and 4. As others some areas could do with a deep clean but it was mainly the frameworks that were dusty, so not in direct contact with the children. The staff were all well mannered and professional although a belt might not go amiss on some of the lads trousers as not great seeing tomorrow’s washing but that was just a minor point.

Described as “epic”, “awesome” and “amazing” by the kids we will certainly be back.

Thanks for the hospitality.
