This blaster is INSANE! Prepare for mega fun and excitement.
The Insanity Motorized Rage blaster requires 6 x AA batteries and a screwdriver to open the compartment for fitting.
It comes with a scope, two circular dart holders that hold 46 darts, two four-way connectors and a tripod base. All items either slide on to attach or for the tripod it has a pin. It also has 72 air pocket darts. Everything is plastic in the XSHOT colours of blue and orange.
Connecting all the parts together is easy and I do like that it is slide and clip. To load the chain into the blaster you need to disengage the indexing mechanism under the blaster and push the chain into the slot. It is a bit painful having to load all the darts into the chains which click together; this chain holds 40 darts. When younger children are operating the blaster, they will need supervision to ensure that the chain is inserted the correct way around and that it is reengaged with the indexer clip. Once done the blaster is ready to fire.
To fire the blaster is a unique two click mechanism. Situated on the back of the blaster between the two orange handles, the first push starts the flywheel into motion. The second downward push starts the barrel rotating and chain feeding as it fires as rapidly as you decide with using the mechanism as wanted.
It is usable with or without the tripod. The tripod has two heights, the legs extend and twist lock. I found that the tripod is sturdy enough for the blaster; but the age range that it is aiming at makes it too small/short. According to Zuru the Insanity range will all clip together making a huge, crazy looking blaster/s; I would imagine that when this is done the tripod would become obsolete due to the weight and balance.
This blaster is insane as the darts fire quickly and far. The box says up to 27m/90 feet away in seconds. With the use of the scope and using darts supplied it is fairly accurate, not sure if this is because of the number of darts fired in quick succession.
It shoots quickly and it doesn’t take long for the belt to be out of ammo. This is a downside as collecting and reloading takes time and brings play time to a halt until reloaded. Being able to purchase extra belts with more darts would be a huge advantage.
The XSHOT Insanity Motorised Rage Fire was supplied by Smyths Toy Shop for this review. Smyths have the whole range of XSHOT in stock as well as extra darts to purchase. These are perfect for birthdays, Christmas or just for family fun. To purchase your own blaster: https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/construction-and-cars/x-shot/xshot-insanity-motorized-rage-fire-72-darts-by-zuru/p/222399 at a cost of £44.99
Smyths have stores across the country but also online shopping. Having received this blaster via courier it came well packaged and nothing on the box to give away what has been bought, great for gift purchases.
I definitely recommend this blaster for children aged 8 and above. But set up it up with targets the whole family will be itching to have a go.
My rating is 4/5 but only because with the rapid fire there needs to be more belts and darts.
