Wychwood Festival Review

Wychwood Festival

Reviewed by Ian Petty

I arrived on the Friday afternoon at Cheltenham race course with my wife, our son of 19 and our daughter of thirteen, we collected our tickets from the box office and then away to set up camp, there were different areas to cater for all, a quiet area, a disabled area, a live in vehicle area, and a general camping area where we headed to. The stewards do try to encourage vehicle owners to drop off everything and drive off the site as soon as possible but on Friday it was blowing a gale and raining so this was not practical! After a bit of a struggle we eventually erected our tent and could then remove our car from the site and start to relax.

At five o’ clock we made our way to the main arena, there were several different venues: The hob goblin bar, The pomme stage, The big top and the Main stage all had live music.

The program is jam packed with things to do for all ages and abilities, arts, crafts, poetry, creative writing, circus skills and a host of holistic therapies.

In some of the smaller venues they had: yoga, African dance, African drums, Pilates and storytelling and many other family orientated events to listen to, watch or even take part in!

Food was all great with a wide variety to suit all tastes and diets. Children were welcomed throughout the venues and well in to the night.

The hob goblin bar had BBC Gloucestershire/Worcestershire presenting the best of the local bands until ten o’ clock when it showed stand-up comedy acts.

The pomme stage was presented by Gloucester university there was a variety of university acts to see.

The big top showed more live music and some informative talks on interesting subjects such as science and the universe, also there was a headphone disco late into the night ( if you’ve never been to a headphone disco I recommend you try it we loved it.)

The Main stage showed the headlining acts and on Saturday morning there was a children’s variety show.

Overall, we all thought that the standard of musical acts, family entertainment and friendliness at the Wychwood festival were excellent there was always something going on for all the family to enjoy!

A great weekend was had by all. Highly recommended.
