WowWee Baby Shark Singing Plush Review

Reviewed by Louise Totton

I have absolutely no idea why, but Baby Shark is massive in my house, and my kids are far older than the pre-school age group that I would have thought it would be aimed at! Last Christmas at both pantos that we attended, there was a Baby Shark sing-along that got all of the audience (including the grandmas and grandads) singing along and the evenings of our two week summer holiday was spent being subjected to countless renditions in the discos and karaoke nights. From a simple but catchy little song, it all seems to have taken on a life of its own so it’s no great surprise that you can now own your very own Baby (or Mummy or Daddy) shark and even be treated to a little song too!

We were sent Daddy Shark Singing Plush to try out; he’s the blue one, but the pink Mummy Shark and Yellow Baby Shark are also available. The shark looks fabulous and is a great interpretation of the cartoon image that you will see on YouTube. A little squeeze of his tummy will give you a short burst of the song which, fortunately for parents who are hearing it for the millionth time, isn’t too loud!

The plush is a great quality toy and is a good size for either younger or older children at around 35cm, and I liked how the squeezable body of the shark is tapered slightly so that even the smallest hand will be able to give it a squeeze and start it singing. It feels really well stitched together, and the fact that the shark’s features are embroidered onto him makes it feel like a really premium plush.

The shark will sing with a simple squeeze, and the sound module is accessed via a velcro’d flap at the back. Fortunately (or unfortunately!), the batteries in this module can be changed – it takes 2x 1.5V LR44 batteries which are widely available. A screwdriver is required is change the batteries which I like to see as button batteries do need to be kept away from young kids.

The kids absolutely love their Daddy Shark – he’s a great quality toy, lots of fun and a big favourite in our house at the moment. There have genuinely been squeals and howls of laughter from us all, and the kids are now desperate to collect Mummy and Baby to complete their shark family. They’re good value too, at £14.99 and will make a great stocking filler or Christmas present for the kids this year, or even a hilarious Secret Santa present if you know someone who’s kids sing it constantly and that one more rendition could tip them over the edge!
