I was delighted to receive the LeapFrog Clean Sweep Mop & Bucket to review. As a Grandmother of an almost three year old I am always on the look out for toys which encourage our little ones learning and development through play and interaction.

The Clean Sweep Mop & Bucket is packaged in a bright green cardboard outer with an open front which provides a “Try Me!” Option. As a big kid myself I love to see what a toy can do while I’m shopping and by pressing the buttons it’s easy to get an early indication of the fun to be had. The product is suitable for children between 3 and 5 years of age and is not recommended for those under 36 months.

Inside the box there is a blue bucket with a face on it. It has a yellow handle, green trim and orange foot pedal and green mop with an extendable handle. The buckets foot pedal is used spin the mop dry. There is also a yellow dustpan and brush, a purple spray bottle and a red duster. The total weight is 1.13kg. All the items are brightly coloured to appeal to the age range it is designed for.

The LeapFrog website says “Clean with this cute, singing bucket that plays dance songs, spins with water sound effects, and comes with all the cleaning tools kids want to use”. So what can you expect? This is an interactive toy which stimulates learning through play and if you can get your little ones to enjoy cleaning at a young age then how good would that be?

The bucket has three modes, it counts to ten, explores colours, and encourages play which helps with listening skills. The bucket has a spin function which is activated by pressing a foot pedal on on the side. This makes a swishy sound and causes the face on the bucket to light up. Chatty instructions such as press the orange soap pump four times, or grab the yellow broom and dustpan or grab the red cloth and purple bottle and clean can be used to encourage your little one to improve their number and colour recognition and counting skills by listening to the cues. The play mode says phrases such as “the house is a mess. Let’s clean” then plays music to clean and dance to. Great for copying what mum and dad do all the time and helping them out! In my experience children love repetition and this toy does just that with its instructions. The voice is very sing songy which I know children will love. I am however not sure if parents will agree and it might have the capacity to be rather tiresome.

As Christmas is approaching I would happily recommend this brightly coloured and cheerful toy as a suitable gift for children of the appropriate age group. It is educational bright and can provide many hours of fun.
