I felt very special receiving this wonderful gift to review. Not just any old box of chocolates, this luxurious Wickedly Welsh Chocolate is handmade in Wales, a note in the package tells me the chocolates were packed, with love by: ***** (editor’s note – name removed), which is a nice personal touch.

A perfect gift for Mother’s Day, the clear cellophane lid is neatly wrapped with a red ribbon with the Wickedly Welsh Chocolate logo followed by a silver heart saying, “love U Mum xx”.

The lid is securely attached to the sturdy black base of the box and inside are a multitude of treats.

First a small box of six traditionally sized chocolates; Citrus Burst, Gingerbread, Mocca Coffee, Raspberry and Vodka, Spiced Praline and Dark Praline. I took a sneak peak inside the neat white box, and they look divine. The Citrus burst is a white chocolate heart with red piping, the Gingerbread and Mocca Coffee are both shiny, the Raspberry and Vodka have little dried raspberries decorating the top, the Spiced Praline has the Cymru Wales daffodil emblem, and the Dark Praline has a Welsh Dragon embossed on it.

Next, we have three 60g bags of ‘Puddles’ which are like the large sized ‘Buttons’, the first bag contains handmade dark chocolate, 62% cocoa and the other two are milk chocolate, again handmade in Wales, using British milk and the packaging is recyclable.

Then we have four individually wrapped ‘Love Spoons’ and it was a pleasant surprise to find each one actually contained two spoons, a dark and a milk chocolate version, so eight in total. The Spoons are beautifully moulded in a traditionally Welsh design. I was uncertain if they were intended to just be enjoyed and eaten or if they were like some you get in a hot chocolate mix to stir into hot milk, well that’s what I did and my goodness when the creamy milk chocolate began to slowly melt it tasted heavenly, it didn’t melt to make the drink as I thought it might, but maybe I was a little too eager to lap it up, and it was absolutely scrumptious.

Finally, the main event is three 95g slabs of chocolate, each individually wrapped in smart black card with a clear window to view the treats inside, silver embossed logo of Wickedly Welsh Chocolate and a designed label naming the chocolate. On the reverse of each bar the chocolate is divided into chunks so that it makes it easy to break off a portion. Eton Mess is white chocolate, my personal favourite, on the front are freeze dried strawberries and meringue. Gin-dulgence is dark chocolate, swirled with white chocolate for decoration and flavoured with freeze dried blackcurrant powder and natural juniper flavouring. Lastly is Raspberry & Vodka it is again dark chocolate decorated with freeze dried raspberries, it is flavoured with Vodka, beetroot and raspberry juice.

I like how they have been creative with the flavourings; the packaging is very coordinated, and they are patriotically promoting this wonderful Welsh product, but most importantly the chocolate is delicious and indulgent just what you want as a gift for someone you love.
