Whisbear – The Humming Bear Review

A GIFT OF SLEEP…

Reviewed by Deborah Mackenzie

Every parent gets bleary eyed, tired and at times exasperated from their baby crying; there are those times when you just do not know what more you can do and feel awful and guilty as you walk away from the crib leaving junior to continue crying. Junior is fed, burped and changed yet they still continue to grizzle and cry… So, who or what do you turn to?

Welcome WHISBEAR to our exhausted world with hopes of a calm, peaceful and happy sleeping baby; this in turn brings contentment to mum and dad. Whisbear is a perfect gift for new baby, Christmas and even a first birthday; giving a gift of sleep is something every parent will say thank you too.

Having read up on these products and trying to select the one that would be most useful to me and baby, I received Sloth E-zzy. The sloth is adorable with a big smile on his face and is really cuddly. He has long arms and legs that help to secure him to different places using the magnets the clip into place, they are strong enough to hold his weight when hanging on the side of the cot. He also as a bean-bum (hehe) so he can sit on a shelf or next to the bed; did I say how cute it looks? The pink noise device slips into his back and is sealed with Velcro; I was a bit worried about this until I used it and can say I am really impressed with how well and tightly it closes.

The app is extremely easy to find on GooglePlay and the AppStore; it is easy to figure out how to set up and input the information.

Having only used Sloth E-zzy for a couple of days we have noticed that baby is calmer and content before falling asleep. Baby can be heard coo-ing before falling asleep. When baby has woken in the night and after attending to his needs, he has started to settle quicker and finally we are getting into a routine without the fuss and crying. The sloth does react to loud noises and will automatically come on, so beware of slamming doors as this will react him to start humming.

Just remember to purchase rechargeable batteries as these do not come with the products (sadly); this would be an added bonus to them, even if it added a slight price increase.

I have no idea how we managed before we got ‘Sydney’ as he has made such a big difference to our sleep routine in a very short period of time.

Whisbear The Humming Bear was founded by two mothers and sisters in 2014, through its success it has grown into a team of young, energetic and ambitious people. Most of this team are mums with 13 kids in the mix, so they have first-hand experience of sleep problems and understand the importance of sleep and a calm baby.

Whisbear The Humming Bear uses PINK noise – yep, that’s right; most people have heard about white noise, but experts have tried and tested this and have found that pink noise is much better. So, what is this pink noise?

Pink noise has the same sssssshhhhh sound as white noise but is different as it is not so high pitched, it has a deep, rumbling sound that is similar to the sounds your child heard in the womb; so it is something they are used to as they spent their growing period during pregnancy listening to it.  Research has shown that listening to pink noise results in a better quality of sleep, which is good for both you/parents and your child. I tested it out and found that it even calms and soothes me, putting me to sleep in 5-10 minutes; and I have woken more relaxed and ready to face the daily tasks.

There are 3 different Whisbears to choose from: Sloth E-zzy, Humming Bear and Humming Bird. Their simple designs based on children’s drawings in looks and is also a sensory toy once your child is old enough to grasp and cuddle. So, which one is for you?

Whisbird – the soothing bird: This is the baby (smallest) of the Whisbear family, which is perfect to hang from a pram, push chair or car seat. Whisbird comes in four colours. The bird has a device internally, which can be removed cleaning, just add it to the washing machine. The bird emits pink noise for 40 minutes, the volume is adaptable to the needs of your baby and uses a soft start and stop functions. (The sound comes on and goes off gradually)

Whisbear – The Humming Bear / CRYsensor. Like Whisbird is a sensory toy, adaptable volume, is fully washable (sensor removed) and has the 40-minute soft start and stop functions. But this adorable teddy has more! Whisbear is technologically advanced featuring CRYsensor function that after the initial 40-minutes of shushing it goes into standby mode. During this mode the device is continuously analysing the surrounding sounds and as soon as it detects baby’s cry it switches on automatically for an additional 20-minutes, this gently soothes baby back to sleep. Whisbear’s ears, arms and legs have some rustling elements along with contrasting colours and different textures of fabrics. There are also magnets hidden in the paws to help attach Whisbear to cots, seats etc; totally love that there is no string to catch baby’s hands/feet in causing distress.

Sloth E-zzy is the most technical and has the most features to help parents keep an eye on your precious baby. E-zzy is multifunctual assistance that connects to an app on your phone. It has a sleep aid, baby monitor and parent’s personal assistant. WOW! The sleep aid does the same as Whisbear and Whisbird PLUS you can select the noise type, length and programmed for selected times. The baby monitor watches over your baby as they sleep. The CRYalert sends a notification to your phone when baby starts crying (or if another noise is detected) and turns on the soothing noise. It also monitors sleep allowing to know the quality of your baby’s sleep at different noise settings. The personal assistant supports the development of your baby as they grow sending tips and following their development, documenting their milestones and you can even add and share your photos. It has a calendar to help plan appointments, vaccinations and more. Should you move out of E-zzy’s range it will send an alarm to your phone to notify you.
