My friend and I travelled with our two sets of 4 year old twins to Wheelgate, an all-action family theme park, during the school holiday in May, and what a fantastic day out we all had. We easily found the venue and arrived just before the opening time. The queue was already building, and with 4 small children to 2 adults, queuing was the last thing we wanted to do but all four entrance gates were opened and the queue went down very quickly. Parking is free and is just outside the venue so if you need to nip back to the car you don’t have far to walk, you just need a stamp on the back of your hand for your re-entry.

The theme park isn’t huge, but they manage to pack an unbelievable amount of things in to see and do, I’m sure we didn’t get round it all in a day. It is very well set out, and even though it was a busy day, it didn’t feel it once we were inside. Everything is spaced out and because of the multitude of different attractions the queues to do things weren’t long at all. We liked that some of theme park is based outside, but also a good proportion of it is based inside too – which suits the unpredictability of the British weather!

There are quite a few different food outlets which are reasonably priced. There are a variety of different places for you to sit and eat a picnic too. We opted to eat at the Pharaoh’s Cafe, and found the food to be adequate for a lunch time meal.

We found every single member of staff we dealt with were friendly, polite, and helpful. They are very strict with height restrictions on the rides, and we always heard them say in the nicest way if a child wasn’t tall enough.

During the half term holiday, it was The Singing Princess event which was a highlight for the girls in our party. We caught one of the Frozen sing along sessions, and there were also opportunities throughout the day for photographs with Elsa and Anna – who were very realistic and entertaining!

The only boy in our party loved the sit on train ride, and he had fun in the Tropical Zone, and also looking at the array of different animals. With so many different rides and zones (including an outdoor water park), I defy anyone to say their children couldn’t find something to enjoy.

I would highly recommend Wheelgate, I can’t believe we live so close to it and haven’t been before! We will be going back again during the summer months when we can hopefully enjoy a picnic and the water park – and get to see the rest of the attractions too! Good fun was had by the all the children (and the adults), we absolutely loved it.
