I was very pleased to receive a lovely box of Christmas Friends wooden jigsaws to review from the Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw company.
This company was founded in 1994 by Kevin Wentworth Preston and they have continued to produce unique, high quality jigsaws from their Wiltshire factory since then.
The jigsaws arrived packaged in a lovely strong box with clear pictures on the lid of the four jigsaws it contained. I received the Christmas Friends puzzle which consisted of a penguin, a polar bear, a reindeer and of course a Santa, each constructed of twenty five shaped pieces.
My grandchildren and I eagerly opened the box to find all the pieces packed securely in a lovely cloth drawstring bag emblazoned with the Wentworth Puzzle logo.
When you initially see that the puzzles are only 25 pieces you think they would be really easy. However, with all the pieces mixed within the bag, you have to sort them before starting to make the shaped puzzle – no easy feat! Once sorted into four separate piles, we started to make the Christmas shapes. Each puzzle is the shape of its character – no easy straight edge or corner pieces! Within each puzzle there are also various shaped pieces like snowflakes, Santa’s etc., – a unique feature of this company and making each puzzle that much more difficult.
There was no suggested age on the box – looking at the pictures and the fact they on had 25 pieces I thought my grandsons aged 3 and 5 would cope easily with them, but the puzzles were surprisingly difficult and the boys soon lost interest – my son and I however were totally hooked and finished the challenge leaving the boys to put the shaped pieces in place.
These are lovely, well made wooden jigsaws although the price tag of £25.95 would seem very expensive if you had not actually seen the quality of the product and the difficulty level of putting them together.
Their website is fantastic and shows a vast range of the puzzles that are available. You can even have puzzles created from your own personal images.
