Last night me and my daughter (13) experienced a warm welcome at the new Victoria Theatre in Woking, we were very excited to be going to see Shrek the musical.  All the shows we’ve seen before here have all been of such great quality, we knew we were in for a treat, and we weren’t wrong.  Shrek the musical follows the same story as the film where Shrek agrees to go rescue princess Fiona from her tower and bring her back to Lord Farquaad in exchange for the deeds to his swamp.  After rescuing her he begins to fall in love with Princess Fiona.  Shrek and Princess Fiona were played by Anthony Lawrence and Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton, they were amazing and so funny they were the perfect pairing.

There were so many great characters and actors it really was a great cast, one of the most standout performers for me though was Cherece Richards, her voice was amazing and I think the audience thought so to going by all the cheers she received, her voice was truly breath taking.

One of my favourite characters was Lord Farquaad played by James Gillan, he was just so funny and camp, I thought he was hilarious and was perfect for the role.

My daughter’s favourite part was the Dragon, it was a great big dragon that was done so well, the other part she really enjoyed as well was the big singalong at the end.  It was so much fun, when everyone joins in with the clapping and singing, it had such an amazing atmosphere, and you were left feeling on a high.

This show was so much fun it reminded me of an early pantomime, you had lots of silly toilet humour, great catchy songs, amazing sets, there were a few jokes for the adults, and I loved the camp cross dressing wolf.

The New Victoria Theatre is such a lovely clean modern and comfy theatre, I’ve been many times now and I have always found the staff to be welcoming and helpful.  I love the convenience of the location within the shopping centre and the car park a few minute’s walk away is a bonus.

The show was loved and enjoyed by all ages young and old so this makes it a perfect family night out, you won’t be disappointed.
