Viners is one of those brands that seems to of been around forever ,I remember my mother and grandmother always looked for viners cutlery because of its reputation for good quality products, in fact when I read the packaging I found that they were established in 1908, they are one of those great British brands that have stood the test of time, although this product was made in Vietnam it was designed in Great Britain.
I was delighted to be asked to try out the cheese set, the perfect opportunity for me to buy and try lots of cheese !
The cheese set comes packaged in sturdy open fronted black cardboard box with yellow accent, the knives have a lovely polished finish and really shine out from the black packaging.
They are made of 18/0 grade stainless steel ,come with a twenty five year guarantee and are dishwasher safe. It states on the box that you have to go to the web site to activate your guarantee.
When I took the knives out of the package I could tell right away they were a quality product , weighty enough to give me the confidence they would be up to the job but not too heavy to be uncomfortable to use , the teardrop shaped handle fit perfectly into my palm without digging in and the mirror finish was lovely.
Now the best part trying the cheese ,I got a selection of hard and soft cheese to try out these knives .
I found that the pronged knife and the larger knife were both equally good at cutting through hard and soft cheeses, and the cheese didn’t stick to the knife ,the cheese slicer is not suitable for soft cheeses and I could only get it to make very small , fine slithers of hard cheese, personally I would like thicker larger slices, but I am a bit of a cheese monster .The classic style of the knives meant they looked great on my table and blended perfectly with my mismatch of table wear.
The cheese set is part of viners “select” range which offers other flat wear accessories to compliment your existing table wear.
This set would make a great gift for any cheese lover , male or female, it shouts out quality and the rectangular box would be very easy to gift wrap, for a larger gift you could pair it with a cheese board and / or some good cheeses .
This cheese set along with a large selection of kitchenware and cutlery can be bought from the viners website www.viners.co.uk , delivery is free on orders over £40, if you sign up for their newsletter you can get 15% off your first order, there is also a list of stockists on the website if you prefer to shop local.
Another feature on the website that I really liked was a section on how to set a table correctly , including which way the knife blade should be facing and where to place a napkin, I wouldn’t always stick to these instructions but with Christmas dinner in mind when I like to make a special effort for the table to look nice, I think it would be a useful guide.
