St George’s Hall is in the centre of Bradford. It is really easy to get to. There is an NCP car park across the road which offers a special offer for theatre guests. You collect a voucher from the theatre foyer which gives you discount. Between the car park and theatre there is an all you can eat Chinese buffet restaurant which I would recommend for food before the show.
The hall itself is a grade 2 listed building and is the oldest hall in the United Kingdom. There are plenty of toilets in the hall and the queues were very short. The theatre is a clean place. Inside the ceilings are really tall. There are 3 tiers in the theatre. It is also very well maintained. The staff were helpful. The only down side I found was that the seats in the stalls were all on one level. At 5 foot I found that I was trying to look over people’s heads all the time.
The show itself is presented and directed by Steve Steinman. He appeared on stars in their eyes performing meatloaf songs.
The show is a musical comedy which is set in New York in 2030. The Baron von Rockula (Steve) is on the lookout for a new bride. He sets up an audition for a new singer. This turns out to be Pandora who he falls in love with and marries. His new wife becomes immortal. Throughout the show the cast are singing all great rock songs backed by a rock band. They sing songs from artists such as Meatloaf, AC/DC, Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi. Whitesnake , Queen and many more.
One of my favourite characters is Bossley the janitor. He is always drunk and gets told not to sing. But he is a really good singer. The women vampires dress quite sexy in fishnets and basques and do a lot of dancing in cages throughout the show.
This is the second time I have seen this show and I enjoyed it just as much the second time as what I did the first. Later on this year a sequel to the show is coming out. This is going to be called Vampire Rock Ghost Train. The first show has been running for over 12 years. Steve Steinman also has a Meatloaf tribute band. They are all really good singers in the show. I would go and see it again.
Overall I would give the theatre 5 out of 5. It is just really easy to get to. Also Bradford interchange train station is across the road.
I would give the show 5 out of 5. I loved every minute of it. If you enjoy classic rock music this is definitely a show for you!
I can’t wait for the sequel to come out so I can go and see that.
