I’m a specialist Nurse and tend to be on my feet by day running around the Hospital. Additionally, I walk my dog several times a day when I am not in work, hiking our back lanes, in the middle of the countryside, close to home. Sadly, my running days are over, although I do have a couple of marathon medals displayed that won’t be added to anytime soon, predominantly due to an episode of Plantar Fasciitis last year and then a fractured foot 9 months ago.
That being said, my footwear is extremely crucial to me, as having comfortable feet definitely makes all the difference to my day.
If I am honest, I hadn’t even considered using a specialist insole in my shoes until I was asked to review the UP SOLE Active Insoles Active F3D Cushion Insole – UP4567.
They arrived well packaged in a big box. I read the instructions on the box and removing the existing insole from the specialist walking trainers, I tend to wear the same make and model trainers for work in black and for walking the dog I have a green pair, as they seem to support my feet well. I then placed the insole from my own trainers placing it under the reverse of the new insole, drawing around it on the reverse of the new insoles with a permanent marker pen and cutting off the excess for a perfect fit to my current shoe.
The UP SOLE Active Insoles Active F3D Cushion Insole – UP4567 is available in 5 sizes, from extra small to extra large, with each fitting a size range, and you can choose the size range closest to your own shoe size. The insoles are available to fit UK shoe sizes from 2 – 14. The website up-insoles.co.uk also has a really helpful sizing page as well as providing comprehensive information on which type of insoles are indicated for each individual and their feet.
The company has over 35 years’ experience with Sports Medical equipment sales and product development the up-insole team develop a range of high quality medical support and therapy products. Each product is reported to have been thoroughly tested by both the UK’s senior sports medical professionals and athletes at all levels to ensure their products meet their high standards before reaching the market.
If you have not worn orthotic-type insoles before then the recommendation is to gradually increase your wear time over the first couple of weeks. I understand that this will avoid muscle fatigue, allowing your body time to adapt to the improved gait and posture provided by the insole.
I followed the advice and used them for short periods, gradually increasing the time that the insoles were positioned in my trainers, leading up to working a full shift with my new insoles in situ. Despite the insoles not giving the appearance of being anything special they were absolutely magic. Since wearing them I have experienced much less pain in my feet and ankles and this has to be due to their shock-absorbing abilities. While they’re not cheap, in my opinion they are certainly worth investing in, especially if you run frequently or walk long distances. It is helpful to note that the insoles can be cleaned by washing them in warm soapy water.
These insoles are a supportive option for runners looking to reduce impact. The UP SOLE Active Insoles – Active F3D Cushion Insole – UP4567 were the model that I road or rather ‘ward-tested’, and these are suitable for those with medium to high arches, providing a cushion insole that is advised to dissipate up to 95% of high frequency shockwaves.
Running and walking can be tough on your feet and joints, so a good pair of insoles can go a long way in providing comfort.
If you’re after a practical Christmas present for the runner or walker in your life, then these insoles could be the perfect gift to leave under the tree – just make sure you get their size correct.
