I suffer from cold hands and have always been on the lookout for a pair of gloves that would keep my hands dry and warm in the winter months.  The weather is getting cooler so I couldn’t wait to give these gloves a go!  I was lucky enough to test out the Elkstone GTX Glove.

These gloves are one of the most expensive gloves that Trekmates produce.  They are £70 so they are an investment but, having tested them out, they are well and truly worth the price tag.  Although I did have trouble keeping them in my hands as my father in law kept trying to walk off with them.  As a keen walker, he was very impressed by the fit, the quality and most importantly, the warmth.  With the gloves, I would highly recommend going by the measurements chart on the Trekmates website.  I measured myself as a medium but they only had these in a large but I ordered them anyway.  They are a little big but that was to be expected when I ordered the next size up.

These gloves were a bit bulkier than I would normally buy, but you could tell that they were a quality product.  The stitching, seams and material that are used are brilliant – no loose threads or places that could catch.  The gloves also clip together, because if you’re like me, I can only find 1 glove when a cold snap hits or if I’m heading off out on an adventure.  What I liked about these gloves were some of the features.  Even though they are big gloves, I was still able to have dexterity in my fingers.  I was still able to pick up objects and quite important whilst taking pictures whilst out on my walk, they are touch screen compatible.  I do have quite a small smart phone so it took me a while to get used to them as my fingers were much larger with the gloves on but soon got the hang of it.

The gloves do look very smart.  They have a leather palm and leather forefinger.  I found this really useful when picking up items on my walks as things didn’t get stuck to them or was easy to brush off.  From a performance point of view, it helped while the dexterity enabled me more control.  Like I said earlier, the finish on these were impeccable, I couldn’t wait to show them off!

There are some care instructions that need to be considered with these gloves.  Due to the materials used in the gloves it’s important to remember they need to be hand washed without fabric conditioners.  I know from past experience that although fabric conditioners make things soft, they can harm performance materials such as these gloves

Trekmates are a UK based company that began from humble beginnings from a garage in Nottingham in the late 90’s. The concept, which was started by a father and son team, was designed to provide great value gloves and hats for outside adventures.  Their aim was to provide quality items that performed when needed, at the right price, without unnecessary things to weigh you down.

Their website says they “have developed innovative new evolutions to overcome the challenges often encountered outdoors, using our experience as walkers, climbers and general lovers of the outdoors to create the exceptionally functional accessories that we know are needed during any adventure.”

I think it’s great also that a small company gives back.  Being a company that is all about being in the great outdoors, it seems fitting for Trekmates to support Buglife.  This organisation is devoted to the conservation of all invertebrates. They are actively working to save Britain’s rarest little animals.  So if you are looking for some equipment for the great outdoors, whether its gloves, headwear or a hammock, check out Trekmates

Now to the most important bit …. Were they warm YES!  So warm and toasty that I didn’t want to take them off!  The filling was even throughout the gloves which meant there were no areas where my hands felt cold.  The gloves are also water and wind proof as well so it kept the cold at bay.  I would give these gloves a 4 out of 5.  Great quality, British made and nice toasty hands whilst wearing.
