I was thrilled to be given the chance to review Treasure Trails but wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

First of all I was asked to choose which trail to take part in and there were loads to choose from on their website and plenty within the local area, so I decided to do the trail in Midhurst only 5 miles away from where I live, and have lived for over 20 years and I have always enjoyed the area. So once I choose my trail in no time at all I got a little booklet sent through in the post.

On a beautiful afternoon after school I took my daughter (5) and my mum up to Midhurst to begin our little adventure. Our trail was a murder mystery themed treasure trail so you have to follow the directions and solve the clues to eliminate suspects, of which there are 16, and find out what 1 of 6 weapons was used in the murder. The trail starts at the community leisure centre where there is ample parking which is free for the first 2 hours, the directions were very easy to follow even if you haven’t visited the area before. Some of the clues were a lot harder than I thought they would be and we certainly had to work as a team to solve some of them (with one of the clues involving working out the square root of a number, I must admit to Googling the answer). The trail took us to parts of the town that I’ve never visited before and other parts that I’ve walked past but never really taken note of what’s around. One of my favourite parts was coming across the ruins of an old fort with the River Rother running below.

The booklet gives you all the information you need such as the length of the walk, a rough time and accessibility as well as a number that you can text if you need help on a certain clue that you can text up to 3 times.

After finishing our trail we stopped in a local pub that we had passed earlier on our travels and made an evening of it. All told, we spent nearly 3 hours doing the trail and then finishing with dinner and the time just flew by. It is a perfect way to spend time outside as a family and exploring the area. This is something I probably wouldn’t have considered doing before but I can see how these trails could get addictive as already I’m thinking about doing a different one, but I would definitely recommend allowing more time than the booklet says to really get the most out of it.

At £6.99 I feel this is good value for an afternoon well enjoyed. On the downside I think the information to solve one of the clues has changed meaning we would never have got the right answer without using up a text but I suppose things change over time and it’s bound to occasionally happen. At the end of the trail you should be left with one suspect and one weapon and you can then go online to see if your correct, if you are your name gets put in a monthly draw to win £100 and you can download a certificate to say you completed the trail.

We had such a lovely afternoon I can’t wait to try another one.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
