As it sounds travel Spirograph is small, light, compact, in fact it is the size of my hand, colourful ,but still as much fun as the full size version. This pocket size Spirograph comes complete with 2 pens, red and blue, a 24 page paper pad, 6 wheels, a design guide, and easy to follow instructions, all this packs away in a compartment underneath. Basically everything you need to get started.
For those who have never played with a Spirograph before, the idea is to make different patterns using specially designed wheels inside a set form. The version I played with as a child, was great fun, however you had to use small pins to hold everything down, I think most of them ended up in the vacuum. Luckily things have moved on and the Travel Spirograph has a fixed outer circle in which you can put the different wheels in. Using the design guide sheet it’s easy to create great designs from the start. However, it can take a little bit of practice and patience for younger people.
I used my seven year old niece as a guinea pig. Once she got use to the circular motion she really enjoyed using it. It does come with two pens, however there is nothing stopping you from using different colour pens. We used coloured biros. Being travel size, and light, it is fantastic to pop in your bag, to keep your children, or yourself entertained anywhere really. The base is made out of sturdy plastic so if needs be you can use it on your lap. As everything is contained in the compartment underneath you do not need to carry loads of extra pieces with you. The down side of any travel size, activity is the size of the pieces.
Travel Spirograph is no different, the wheels are small, my niece did find them a bit fiddly to use at the start. She also found the yellow paper holder stiff and it caused the paper to rip a few times. If you are heavy handed you may also find you rip the paper as you are creating your designs. We went through a few sheets to start with.
We took the Travel Spirograph out in the car and to the park, being compact and complete it did make it very easy to create pictures on the go. I think it would be great for camping, coach trips, airports and flights, to keep the children entertained.
The Travel Spirograph is brightly coloured, being bright yellow and red, it does makes it appealing to children. It helps make arts and crafts fun and virtually mess free. The good thing with Spirograph is it is age less, well as long as you are over 5 years old, due to small pieces which could cause choking if swallowed.
When you have mastered the basic patterns, you can create some fantastic colourful designs. Once your designs are complete you can even colour them in, like Mandela’s.
We really liked the travel Spirograph, it is compact, complete, colourful and easy to use. With the summer holidays starting soon, we think that the Travel Spirograph makes a great addition to the suitcase or backpack.
It would also make a nice birthday or Christmas present.
It is a great price at £ 10.99.
We give the Travel Spirograph 4/5 .
