We went to see Tom Stade at the Lowry in Salford last night (13 October 2016) – this is the 2nd time we have seen him perform the You’re Welcome show, and we were not disappointed at seeing it again. The theatre is easily accessible with parking in the adjacent Lowry outlet car park at a reasonable cost. The theatre is always great every time we visit with a massive range of shows to go and see.

After the initial warm up with a great up and coming comedian, the witty rock and roll style comedian came on stage with a swagger that could resonate with a rock star, full of confidence and big smiles. The audience cheer and he begins the show…

His material ranges from talking TV shows and why us British people watch shows like cash in the attic. He makes jokes about American show titles and compares these to the English version. Not afraid to laugh at himself Tom exaggerates his upbringing in Canada with the wolf ringed town and the lack of technology. Tom Stade the God of his town because he got out!

At times his jokes seem to be drunken rambling but with him giggling at himself and random body language throughout it only assists with the comedy. Who else would go into great detail of thoughts of a hot tub with Lionel Richie and the Dalai Lama? Intrigued? So were we, Tom’s description about toe rubbing in the hot tub with the most random people had the room laughing at the seams. The whole Glastonbury story from the call to do the gig to him being on stage takes us through the experience with him in the most hilarious way.

Current material relating to Brexit and how this makes him feel like an immigrant brought the show right up to date with a tongue in cheek approach to votes of the British people. He goes on to compare himself to a Chinaman and laughs at the evolution of British through invasion. Exactly who is British!

Tom pulls the audience into his show and has great interaction with those close to the stage. Asking a woman near the front what no means and then bringing in the to the bone joke about how men don’t mean no and are “raped” by their partners all the time. He does wonder over the line but not with any malice and all in the name of comedy. No one could be offended by him for long.

Tom’s presence is like a boisterous and loveable mate you meet up with at the pub, he’s got the feeling of friendliness about him that makes you feel at home. His laid back style and charisma coupled with his ability to deliver great comedy over and over again really makes him a comedian work watching.

Tom’s 2nd DVD was filmed during the show last night and we can’t wait to get a copy. Definitely buying this and will be going to see him again when he comes back with new material.

We would have liked to see some new material from our last visit but all in all a great show, a great night at a great venue. Tom Stade 4 out of 5 – a definite not to be missed.
