Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Wish You Were Here

We had a fabulous evening at Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall listening to the amazing Think Floyd who have been performing together as a band since 1994. The guitar playing was flawless throughout and certainly did Pink Floyd justice. The backing singer Ella G also deserves a big mention for her fantastic singing.

The evening started strongly with a fine performance of Astronomy Domine and wound its way through many favourites such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Us and Them and Dark Side of The Moon during which a laser light show, something that Pink Floyd is renowned for, backed the music throughout.

As the 2015 tour celebrates the 40th anniversary of Wish You Were Here the second half of the show features a complete performance of the 1975 album which was fantastic from start to finish, you could hear a pin drop in the audience until the end of every track. The show culminates in a fabulous finale with the amazing Comfortably Numb. I don’t think we have ever been to a concert at Tunbridge Wells where the band was so well received, there was the typical standing ovation at the end but even at the end of every track there was rapturous applause and cheering.

I was extremely lucky to see Pink Floyd at Wembley many years ago and this band are certainly the best musicians I have come across since then. You don’t listen to Pink Floyd music to feel joyous and uplifted but to feel mesmerised and melancholy and this gig was no exception. The songs were portrayed so well that it took me right back to that original concert. So much so, that we didn’t speak for ages after we left the venue and everyone else also seemed in a world of their own as they wandered out.

Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall is currently undertaking a refurbishment at the moment and new seats have been fitted to the main area and tiered stalls making it even more comfortable. You can tell that it’s going to be really great when it’s completed in a couple of weeks’ time but in the meantime the renovations are not interfering with the comfort of the theatre whatsoever. As ever the staff were prompt and courteous, the bar was well stocked and the venue clean and tidy. Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall is a great place to visit with a multi-storey car park next door for easy parking and great facilities for the disabled.

A resounding recommendation for Think Floyd.
