The Pokémon Trainer Trivia Game is bound to be popular with Pokémon fans this Christmas and we got the chance to review it and share the details in time for that all important seasonal shopping trip.

This game works right out of the box, it’s easy to remove from the packaging and switch on and that’s it, you’re ready to go in under a minute. The Pokémon Trainer will take it from there explaining everything you need to know to play. It will even keep the score. Exactly what is needed Christmas morning if you ask me. One less thing which needs putting together and can be played with immediately.

In multiplayer mode each player can choose which Pokémon to be, choosing from Charmander on the red button, Pikachu on the yellow button, Squirtle on the blue button or Bulbasaur on the green button. The centre poke ball is the key control area. The players prowess the red part of the ball if the answer is wrong and the part is the answer is true. With a variety of question styles and with 1,000 questions in total the Pokémon Trainer Trivia Game will keep even a Pokémon expert busy for a while. There are three levels of play too, beginner, advanced and expert.
The game begins with each player holding 50 points and each player will gain 2 points for a correct answer or lose 2 points for a wrong answer. When one of the player’s Pokémon is out of points the game ends and the player with the highest points is the winner. However it’s really important to be sure you wait for the question to finish being spoken or you could lose your turn.

In single player mode the player can train up and beat their own high score. Either way there’s colourful lights keeping it all bright and fun. Each round takes approximately 15 minutes but the extra bonus is that you can pause the game. Ideal for younger children and especially on Christmas Day when there’s so much more to do.

The Pokémon Trainer Trivia Game is lightweight and easily handled. Good for easy manipulation and little hands. The game is aimed at age 7 and over but, other than the easier questions would probably suit children aged 5 and upwards. It specifies on the box that it’s not suited to children under 3. It’s clear and easy to understand when the Training Master speaks and the sound quality is really good. It’s cute and really perky and positive, a winner in my book and probably for every little Pokémon fan. I’m sure it’ll show up on lots of letters to Santa this winter.

The game takes three AAA batteries which are included and you can buy the Pokémon Trainer Trivia Game at lots of different places including Smyths. It’s the same price everywhere I’ve looked so there’s no need to shop around. Availability for the game seems good at the time of writing this review.
