This was my first visit to The Stanborough Beefeater in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and first appearances were of a nice, welcoming restaurant.
We were greeted at the entrance and asked if I had a preference to where we sat. I asked if there was a booth available and that's what we got.
Within a minute of sitting down our waitress Jo introduced herself and gave us menus as well as asking if we'd like a drink. She was extremely friendly and bubbly from the outset.
Our drinks arrived, and I instantly fell in love with my woo woo cocktail, it was the best I'd tried! After placing our food order, the starters came pretty quickly and were thoroughly enjoyed. I had the garlic and herb breaded mushrooms and my partner had the potato shells. The only negative was that I found a stray piece of calamari hidden amongst my mushrooms!
We had both ordered steaks for our main, a medium rare fillet for myself and a medium rare t-bone for him. After we'd finished our starters, our waitress informed us that the chef had just told her there were no more t-bones, however did offer us a sirloin and fillet for the same price which we happily accepted.
My steak was cooked to perfection, however I must say the quality of the steak was quite poor, for a fillet it was full of fat and I ended up leaving about a 3rd of it. Unfortunately the steaks for my partner weren't cooked very evenly. The fillet was rare, if not verging on blue and the sirloin was medium well. Once again though, our waitress was over within a minute of us receiving our meals to check it was ok and therefore was able to take the fillet for further cooking and not really delaying our meal. The rest of the meal and side dishes were lovely!
We shared a dessert of chocolate brownie and ice cream which was gorgeous!
All in all, our waitress and the service given was great, the food was lovely (minus a few mishaps) and our overall experience was really positive.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family and would visit again!
