I visited the The Mallard Beefeater in Derby with my family for my mother’s birthday.

We arrived at 8pm and a waiter greeted us as we walked in. I explained we had booked a table for four and he seated us in a booth table which was very pleasant. The lighting is quite low in this restaurant which gives it a nice calm, relaxing atmosphere.

The waiter promptly took our drinks orders which arrived quickly. We didn’t have to wait long before our food orders were taken we opted for a sharing bread platter. Unfortunately some of the bread was a little hard and not overly enjoyable which was a bit disappointing.

Our mains arrived shortly after which where all hot and arrived together; we all tucked in. The waiter was very attentive asking us for any extra sauces, dips and drinks. The ribs were particularly yummy! Definitely recommend that meal. My partner’s steak was also cooked to perfection. A very tasty main enjoyed by all four of us. The restaurant was fairly quiet so was nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the restaurants I usually visit with my young children. I would suggest this restaurant to couples wanting a nice quiet meal.

Our table was cleared and we were offered desserts and coffees. We asked if we could order floater coffees which weren’t actually on the coffee menu but the waiter was happy enough to make these for us. They were delicious too…

We did have to wait a while for the waiter to come back to our table and I did have to get up and ask for the bill.

Overall a pleasant meal in a nice relaxing atmosphere with yummy food and good service.
