It’s Pantomime season again and oh how we missed you! The Wycombe Swann is a great venue for any show but does lend itself to pantomime very well if you have seats in the stalls, a great view from almost any seat, which is fab when you have little ones with you. I would arrive with plenty of time, as it’s the best array of light up goodies I have ever seen at Pantomime, I actually wanted one of everything, such was the range, which are of course a must for Panto.
If you are still trying to choose which show you go to this chilly December, let me stop you right there and insist you buy tickets for Aladdin right now! What a show. Fan flipping tastic, start to finish.
This was top quality entertainment from start to finish not just down to the sparkling cast, who were most definitely outstanding, but the incredibly amazing digital set. Wow wow wow. Costumes of the brightest highest quality I have ever seen, this show will have you clapping, singing giggling and outright belly laughing. What a brilliant few hours of wonderful entertainment.
Prior to attending, I assumed that the legend that is Vernon Kay would be the star of the show, and whilst he is every bit the stage presence I expected, I would be hard pushed to choose between him and La Voix for stage timing and presence, that said they work brilliantly together, and the dreamy Kyle Richardson who had the voice of an angel. Brilliant casting all round to be fair.
It’s not Aladdin to the letter, but a great take on the story, with La Voix as Lola Lankey who is Aladdin and Vernon Lankey’s mum, the laughs are plentiful. Vernon Kay was born to do Pantomime and wears his variety of outfits like no one else in panto land could. Gerard Carey as the baddie Sven Gali is hilariously good. The vocals are second to none, and both Natalia Brown as Spirit of the Ring (Alexa!) and Amiyah Goodall as Jasmine were great singers, just brilliant throughout.
I think the vision of Kyle Richardson, La Voix and Vernon Lankey wearing full sparkling ABBA outfits will live with me for quite some time. I don’t think I have laughed quite as much for a while. Most of the time you are not laughing at them but with them, they created one of the best Pantomimes I have seen for a long time. This show if full of laughs, songs, slapstick of the highest quality. A five star show from start to finish. The set is stunning, you have to see it to appreciate it, I have never seen a show with a digital background before, it worked brilliantly. I can only imagine how much time effort and work goes into producing something this top quality, but for me, it was truly the best couple of hours I’ve spent at a show for quite some time. I can almost guarantee you won’t want to see this just the once, you will be back for more, oh yes you will! Go grab some tickets, I hope you enjoy the show as much as I did.
