We were asked to do the review of The Take That Experience at the Buxton Opera House and we were pleased as Buxton is one of our favourite theatres in the country. It’s just so nice, from the theatre to the surrounding area, to the staff; you just cannot go wrong when going to Buxton.
When this show came up for review, we were more than happy to go and review the show and we felt privileged as this was cancelled the first time due to the bad weather. You could tell that the guys on stage didn’t want to disappoint the wild audience who were more than happy to shout and scream for the guys as we think they had all waited a very long time to see this, so it set the tone for a making of a very good night, listening to some very good music.
The start of the Experience started with three of the band members on stage Gary, Mark, Howard and we have to say my oh my, did Gary look and speak like Gary, and Howard was a spitting image of him too, but Mark oh well you cannot get it all right as he was about 6ft tall and didn’t look like him but he sure did have the energy and actions of Mark on stage, he was well aware that we would notice as he does make a comment and their humour is amazing and they even giggle along with the audience. They started singing and from the very first song, you could tell that the guys could sing and dance and we have to say they “Dance better than the proper band”. The experience felt like you were at a concert of Take That with new and old songs being sung.
During the first act the guys had some great banter with each other and the audience. The interaction with the audience was second to none and this is why the whole experience was sheer class. They had a laugh, we had laugh everyone just had an amazing time.
For me, not my wife, the only downside I would say to this experience is that when Robbie Williams entered the stage for his own set of songs, I was sat there thinking to myself well this isn’t a Take That experience as this is Robbie Williams singing on his own. It’s not called the Take That and Robbie Williams experience, so for me they need to stick to the whole band doing it together or re-name the show, but never the less everyone loved him and his interaction with us was great, he is as cheeky as the real Robbie… if not cheekier!!
In the second part of the show, they introduce the five members of the band to the stage and then this where everyone was up on their feet dancing and singing arms in the air, so if you don’t mind being on your feet for most of the production then you will love this show.
You don’t need to be told what songs where sung at this production because all of Take That songs are all classic and everyone in the world knows what they are called. The music, singing and dancing is what make makes this a very successful production it’s well worth the watch. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!
One negative for me where I feel the guys let themselves down a bit, but we are not sure whether this was the theatre or the band and as I’ve worked in security for a number of years and dealt with a number of high end celebrities, I know when you have an excited crowd and the band say you’re more than welcome to have a photo taken with us at the end of the show, I just knew there would be sheer pandemonium with people trying to get to see them and get their photos taken with them… on the major plus side, this was amazing for them to do!! But just some advice in the future for when you announce something like this is to get a member of your team to arrange a queuing system where people have to queue to have a photo taken with you so they can then be moved on because you get some people who will have about 20 pictures with you and they are holding up people who are being polite and waiting and that way it works for both yourselves and the audience. This way you won’t have complaints and all people with get to see you and have a photo with you. We really appreciated this photo opportunity and all credit goes out to you for your extra time… THANK YOU!!
Apart from that the whole show was superb and well worth it… go get your tickets now as you will have a great night!!
5 out of 5 for the total experience.
