You could not ask for a more perfect way for the Milton Keynes Theatre to celebrate its reopening after such a challenging year for all, than with the acclaimed musical The Rocky Horror Show. This legendary cult show has been seen by over 30 million people worldwide, timelessly appealing to all generations for over 40 fabulous years!
The Milton Keynes Theatre is one of the region’s leading live entertainment venues. The theatre is a large and spacious impressive venue, audiences can feel reassured by changes to keep people safe. The well tiered seats are most comfortable and have ample leg room. All areas of the theatre are accessible to customers with limited mobility. There is also ample, free parking within easy walking distance of the theatre.
It was celebratory party time as the curtain rose for the return of Richard O’Brien’s sell-out worldwide tour of The Rocky Horror Show, directed by Christopher Luscombe. There was genuine great excitement, anticipation and delight in the air – audience and cast alike – such joy at being back in the theatre again! Although dressing up is not compulsory it certainly adds to the fun!
A parody of well known, classic horror movies, The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of two college graduates, Brad (Ore Oduba) and Janet (Haley Flaherty) travelling to visit their college professor, in true horror story fashion, their car breaks down. As all classic horror stories go, they decide to seek help at an old mansion on the hill. Here, they meet the iconic Dr Frank N Furter (Stephen Webb) and are taken on a riotous thrilling journey, time warped into an alternative reality – don’t go expecting a conventional plot!
Brilliantly performed, the whole cast were outstanding and really did give it their all. Audiences were on their feet from the start with a powerhouse of iconic songs, The Timewarp dance and other classics – just what the Dr ordered after the equally alternative reality of 2020!
We loved how the Narrator (Philip Franks) brought the show up to date and fresh with his cracking comedy one-liners about current events and admirably quick witted ad lib responses when dealing with hecklers in the audience!
Winner of Strictly Come Dancing, Ore Oduba, excels as Brad, with a well-rounded performance, great vocals and fabulous comic timing.
Stephen Webb as Frank N Furter, captures the essence of this iconic character – no small feat! He is a class act, with a great, commanding stage presence coupled with a strong vocal performance.
There are also sublime, exceptional vocals from Haley Flaherty as Janet, Lauren Ingram as Columbia and Suzie McAdam as Magenta, adding depth and quality to this talented cast.
With musical arrangements full of energy and extravagance from Emmy award winning composer Richard Hartley and fabulous choreography designed for maximum audience participation, there is so much to admire and love in this phenomenon of a show.
Risque, kitsch, unique, and full of life, The Rocky Horror Show is a must-see for both the initiated and uninitiated. Take a jump to the left and a step to the right for this truly bucket list show!
