I received the Nosy Crow Fold Out + Play Doll’s House to review and was interested to learn a little about the company that makes the product. The website was a very useful resource to find some background. It says “Nosy Crow is a multi-award-winning, independent children’s publishing company. We began publishing child-focused, carer-friendly children’s books in January 2011 with the aim of creating books that encourage children to read for pleasure. We’re one of the country’s fastest growing publishing companies.”
I saw the Nosy Crow Fold Out + Play Doll’s House being highlighted by Steve Wilson on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday 9th December. He said it was “the coolest dolls house.” Having seen it on the television, I was very excited to be given the opportunity to see what the hype is all about.
The Fold Out + Play Doll’s House is very bright and colourful. It is constructed from cardboard/card and is quite heavy. It is a gift in two parts. Firstly, there is the construction of the house made up of four different rooms. There is a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Each room can be furnished with the press-out pieces to build a table, chairs, bed and bath as well as plants and cushions and a rocking horse, there’s even a slide, a lawn mower and garden tools. There is the opportunity to customise each piece by adding the included stickers. The pack also includes press out characters to add to the play experience. The characters are a dog, a cat, a fox and a lion, The dolls house is so detailed. Each fold out room has a floor, there are doors that open and close and a mirror and pictures on the walls. Just putting the house together is such a delight, it took me right back to my own childhood days. I would have loved this toy so much.
The second part of this lovely toy is it that the child’s imagination can run riot. My 5 year old granddaughter is in her element using the characters to make up her own scenarios and stories. She can play alone or with her friends or even grandma for hours and the possibilities for her imagination to run wild are endless.
When it comes to the time to put the toy away the rooms simply fold back up and the furniture can be put back in the enclosed drawer to keep everything together and for compact storage. The book is easy to transport, so can be taken to a friend or relatives house to share the joy.
Nosy Crow Fold-Out + Play Doll’s House is an ideal toy for developing motor skills and fantastic for tapping into the imagination. This is an old style toy, great to get kids away from screens and use their imagination creating their own stories with the characters. Fun to build and play with. Reminiscent of my own childhood.
Nosy Crow also sell a range of books for imaginative young minds. The website makes it easy to select books by age group. The books are suitable from age 2 to 12.
