A Memorable Evening of Music, Talent, and Spectacle at the 2023 Darley Park Concert.

A musical spectacular, that held the audience spellbound. This event, which took place in Darley Park, was a perfect synthesis of outstanding music, remarkable voices, engaging hosts, and a stunning firework display that had everyone one spellbound.

The musical group Sinfonia Viva provided the evening’s most memorable performance by capturing the spirit of artistic expression via their music, showcasing symphonic music’s incredible potential.
This orchestra reinvented musical performance with their skill, dedication, and emotion. Seeing my children interact with the music, dance, and appreciate the emotions that a performance can evoke was incredibly mesmerising, especially since it was their first time hearing an orchestra perform live.

From the first note, Sinfonia Viva showed they are more than an orchestra—they bring life to every note. Their performances are immersive journeys that inspire emotions, stir souls, and captivate audiences. Their playlist was of well-known film theme tunes and popular music which only heightened the audience engagement, with generations and families sharing the “dance floor”.

All ages were represented in the audience as they were captivated by their interpretations of both classic and modern favourites. They clearly put their hearts and souls into their work, as evidenced by the seamless integration of vocals, instruments, and passion.

Andy Twigge, BBC Radio Derby’s favourite presenter was the skilled host of the evening, which only added to the evening’s allure with his wit and relationship with the audience. His easy-going (on the edge of slap-stick humour) banter and friendly contact with the crowd made everyone feel welcome and included in the performance.

The emotional depth and vocal prowess with which Harry Apps performs “Bring Him Home” from Les Misérables is quite astounding. Harry’s voice is both strong and gentle, and he uses it to skilfully weave a tapestry of emotions into his songs. I had goosebumps whilst listening and had a tear in my eye as I was so moved.

Harry and Emily’s voices were stunning, individually and as a duet.

Emily Apps’ calming, powerful voice is a superb blend of affective depth and skill. Her presence drew the audience into a world of musical magic onstage.

While singing “9 to 5,” Emily’s excitement permeates the park. Her versatile range lets her jump from gentle, poignant moments to brilliant, soaring highs. Her clear notes and impeccable control demonstrate her vocal skill.

The Baby People were fantastic, their voices and choice of songs had the audience engaged and foot tapping along. Lilly Blu and Lillie Keay show the skills of our community, and how music can bring people together.

As nightfall approached, the scene was set for a spectacular show: the fireworks. With each flash of light timed to the beat of the music, the sky was transformed into a rainbow. All ages were mesmerised by the dazzling symphony of colour, crackle, and shine. The audience’s exuberant “oohs” and “aahs” captured the sense of wonder and delight felt by all.

The Darley Concert 2023 was more than just a showcase for musical talent; it was a party for everyone who loves music and wants to meet new people. In Darley Park, a broad and enthusiastic crowd of families, friends, and music fans applauded, sang along, and danced with unrestrained joy.

The mesmerising sounds of Sinfonia Viva, Andy Twigge’s charming compering, Emily Apps’s and Harry Apps’s great singing, and the breathtaking fireworks shown made for an unforgettable evening. Not only did it include local talent, but it also served as a unifying musical event for the community. Those lucky enough to be in attendance were left with a lasting memory long after the fireworks died down and the music stopped echoing.

This captivating event deserves a resounding 5 out of 5 rating, making it an ideal experience for the entire family, regardless of age. It transcends the typical notion of a concert in the park, evolving into an immersive picnic in a verdant oasis, all accompanied by the magic of live music.
