Last night I took my mum to see The Bon Jovi Experience at The Hawth, Crawley. With Bon Jovi being one of mum’s favourite bands and their music being something I listened to a lot in my youth we were both really looking forward to it.
The Bon Jovi Experience is billed as the only tribute band to play with Bon Jovi themselves so we had high expectations of the evening. Certainly in terms of fun and feel good factor it didn’t disappoint.
With Tony Pearce as frontman Jon Bon Jovi the evening started as it meant to go on, getting the audience on their feet joining in as the tracks started. Tony Pearce, sounded like Jon Bon Jovi, more so in the slower tracks, and also looked very much like him taking on the persona and engaging with the audience with a New Jersey accent. The hits came thick and fast with ’Raise Your Hands’ keeping everybody on their feet clapping and slow songs such as Bed of Roses getting the audience’s phone lights swaying in the dark. ‘Bad Name’, ‘Dead or Alive’ and ‘Blaze of Glory’ had everyone captivated and allowed guitarists Edd (Richie Sambora) and Steve (Hugh McDonald) to demonstrate their fantastic musical skills and talent. Edd is entirely self-taught which shows just how much you can achieve if you put your mind to it.
The band did two encores with the great finale being the Slippery When Wet hit, ‘Living on a Prayer’. Everyone was up on their feet dancing, cheering and clapping followed by a standing ovation at the end. To be honest I sometimes struggle in the second half on a Sunday night knowing I have to get up the next morning but the two hours just flew by and we both walked out completely energised with big smiles on our faces.
We watched The Bon Jovi Experience at The Hawth theatre in Crawley, West Sussex. Situated just ten minutes from Gatwick Airport, with very easy access to the M23 motorway and plenty of free parking The Hawth is a great theatre to watch any show.
Whether you want to get transported back to your youth or you’re a just a rock god/goddess you will enjoy a great fun night out with the Bon Jovi Experience.
