Terror in Meeple City Board Game Review

Reviewed by Emma Callow

The Terror in Meeple City board game comes in a sturdy box and has lots and lots of pieces (a hoovers nightmare!). The pieces are either made from wood or strong cardboard so built for durability as the whole premise of the game is to smash it up!

The box contains; 1 game board, 90 Meeples, 4 wooden vehicle tokens, 16 teeth tokens, 4 wooden feet tokens,  4 wooden monster tokens, 4 cardboard screens, 16 secret super power cards, 16 power cards, 16 character cards, 12 small building tiles, 6 medium building tiles, 1 stadium tile and instructions.

We spent half an hour setting the game up – this was the first time set up so lots of sticking and building etc…

When we were finally ready to play we read through the instructions and were none the wiser! How this game could be aimed at an 8 year old I have no idea? The set up instructions were easy to follow but the game play just not clear enough.

The aim of the game is that you arrive in the city as a monster and the person to cause most damage is the winner.

There are lots of different elements to the game, superpower cards and two other character cards. My 8 year old son had the first go and destroyed half of the board on his first flick – at this point the Meeples flew all over the board and we were unsure of if they went over other neighbourhoods could they still be eaten. The instructions didn’t give clarification – all 4 pages!!

The superpower cards and charts were added frustrations as the instructions just aren’t clear enough. Having looked online it appears people just make their own rules up to continue with the game but my son steadfastly refused to do this.

I’m afraid Terror of Meeple City will be destined for the back of the cupboard – unless it ends up in the hoover first!

Whether I would recommend I’m not sure but I’ll certainly let my sons friends play the game and make up their own minds as its very good quality and I’m sure with clearer instructions for younger readers it would be an enjoyable game to play.

The quality is good but the instructions do need a lot of improving.
