Based on the film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is set in the French Riviera and is about a very charming con artist and a younger somewhat rough around the edges wannabe con artist, who after  chance encounter embark on a competition to swindle a young millionaire heiress out of her fortune. For those of you like me that have not seen the film, you are in for a nice surprise – this is laugh out loud funny.

Michael Praed and Noel Sullivan make a fabulous double act; the chemistry between them is wonderful. Michael plays the handsome sophisticated Lawrence so gracefully, and Noel plays the loud, and at times vulgar, Freddy, so naturally. His opening number “Great Big Stuff” is hilarious and sets the tone for what was a very funny, night!

The whole cast were wonderful with some very funny scenes between the supporting roles, particularly Mark Benton and Geraldine Fitzgerald. And Carley Stenson was very convincing as the kind hearted and naive victim.

The stage layout was simple and elegant, setting the scene of being in the sophisticated French Rivera wonderfully, with changes between screens being very sleek.

The King’s Theatre is a traditional small and beautiful theatre with a warm atmosphere and ambiance. It is very comfortable and clean with helpful, friendly and polite staff. There is a great modern bar which I suspect has been renovated recently. The theatre is in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, so easily accessible by public transport but could potentially be difficult for parking at peak times.

I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at the King’s Theatre and would absolutely recommend this production to friends and family. This is one of the best shows I have seen in some time. I would give it an overall very funny 4.5 out of 5.
