Summer Holiday at Milton Keynes Theatre Review

15-19 May 2018

We went along last night (15 May 2018) to the opening night of Summer Holiday The Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre. It was opening night and fair to say the older generation had turned out in force to see the musical. We had fabulous seats tonight, central with a fantastic view. We settled in with excitement.

Who hasn’t seen the movie starring Sir Cliff Richard? Summer Holiday is the tale of a young group of lads who embark on a trip in a London double decker bus. Ray Quinn manages magnificently to fill the somewhat large shoes of Cliff Richard as Don. He has an amazing voice, not so sure about his dancing skills, but boy did he give it his all. His mates Cyril, Edwin and Steve were very entertaining. The cast as a whole are faultless, singing and dancing their way through the show, with some great voices.

Sometimes I was slightly bemused and wondered if I missed something, but in the main the show is completely fabulous with a very entertaining set of songs. Of course, the anthem Summer Holiday featured, Living Doll and Do You Wanna Dance along with the Young Ones got us all singing, toe tapping and clapping. It’s a show full of energy and the girls are simply gorgeous, ladies Do Rey Me… adored the evening dresses.

The bus features heavily and is integral to the show, it’s a clever piece of work and all credit to the set designers. The costumes throughout fit with the era.

I can’t not mention Bobby Crush as Jerry… awesome wardrobe kind sir. Bless you, you most certainly have a lovely stage presence. If you are looking for good wholesome entertainment then Summer Holiday is the show for you, I left the theatre with a smile on my face, humming Summer Holiday. It’s a high energy fun packed show full of singing and dancing.

I’m not sure If I expected more rock n roll, but left feeling I had been to a summer ball or garden party. Grab yourself a ticket, before the bus rolls out of town.
