Milton Keynes Theatre is an impressive venue. It is situated amongst lots of restaurants which makes it easy to eat before the show without any hassle.
With roomy, comfortable seats that have plenty of legroom it is a great venue to watch a show, and as it pantomime season we were there to see Aladdin with an amazing all-star cast, including Priscilla Presley.
The show was fantastic, me and my two sons aged 13 and 6 laughed for the whole evening. This show would be really good for boys or girls to watch, young or old.
The show had a big musical content with brilliant singing from former A1 star Ben Adams. There are lots of well know songs from people like Ed Shearen in the show which I’ve not seen in other pantos.
Gary Wilmot made a great Widow Twanky. Lots of laughs and innuendos!!
Kev Orkian made the perfect Wishee Washee- warm friendly and very very funny.
Wayne Sleep is adorable in his role as Genie of the Ring. He still has those dancing moves too.
Marc Pickering plays the baddie Abanazar, he worked the crowd well and got plenty of boos. Aimie Atkinson is well known from musical theatre. She played princess Jasmine, she was beautiful and just the princess every little girl dreams of being. Phil Holden is very funny as PC Pong – a great sport even when he’s being put in a washing machine!
David Whitworth plays the emperor, a likeable character in the panto. My son’s favourite was Bruce Airhead. Entertainer to the emperor who gets into a giant bouncy ball. You have to see this act to believe it!
The surprise star of the show was Priscilla Presley. Quite odd that she’s here in Milton Keynes! Even though a little wooden it was great to be up close with this famous lady.
There were also some great dancers – kids and adults doing some brilliant routines. The set is amazing and the costumes are absolutely gorgeous. The hard work, detail and diamanté must have taken months.
The general story is the Aladdin we all know and love with a few twists. Lots of Elvis references with Milton Keynes and the local areas dropped into the story.
The only bit where it was a bit awkward with a touch of “what are they doing ?” was a random song with actions about what job they would like to do. It went on forever and wasn’t interesting or funny!
Apart from that 5 minutes it’s a fantastic show with a good cast who obviously get on well. The odd forgotten lines and fits of giggles added to the appeal.
I would happily go and see it again before Christmas!!
Highly recommended for all of the family whatever their age.
