Me and my mum was so excited to be going to see Thriller Live at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking, both of us are massive Michael Jackson fans and couldn’t wait to see if the show did him justice.
I sort of thought that this was going to be more like a tribute act but it was more of a celebration of his music with his songs being sung by four main singers with a vast number of other dancers.
The first half of the show there was a fair few songs that I’ve never heard of and I felt that it didn’t really capture the essence of Michael Jackson, there was a lovely part where they played Rockin’ Robin and had a video of a little Michael Jackson singing and dancing projected on the screen with dancers on the stage, I think everyone found it quite moving.
After the 20 minute interval I felt a little bit underwhelmed but the second part was completely different it had loads of songs that I knew such as Dirty Diana, Earth Song, Thriller and Bad. The dancers were amazing doing all the moves just like Michael Jackson did and you could tell they put there all into it.
The standout singer for me was Rory Taylor he was just fantastic and the musicians were unbelievable especially when the guitarist did a solo. The atmosphere was electric , there were so many stand-out songs that I don’t think I could pick just one but I loved Beat It and Bad as they performed it just like Michael Jackson did and my mum’s favourite song was Earth Song as she found it so moving.
They save the best until last, it’s the one that everyone was waiting for and it didn’t disappoint! The ending was like one big party and everyone was invited, we had such an amazing night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, I just wish that the first half was as good as the second part.
The New Victoria Theatre in Woking is always a joy to visit it’s very modern with ample parking located nearby in the Peacocks shopping centre and is very easy to find.
We would highly recommend this lovely theatre it’s one of my favourites, we truly had a night to remember and was talking about it all the way home.
