I was fortunate enough to receive Tom Ford, Noir Eau De Parfum to review. I have a son who is extremely interested in all thing’s fragrance, and I have spent many an hour strolling through the fragrance departments of larger stores, smelling almost every male fragrance available. So, when opportunity arose to receive a Tom Ford fragrance, he was very excited to add a Tom Ford fragrance to his collection.

The bottle unsurprisingly is packaged in a simple black (Noir) textured box with silver text, inside the bottle is plain and black with a similar textured lid to the outer packaging. In comparison to other fragrances in the same price range Tom Ford does not fall into the category of elaborate packaging, instead letting the fragrance sell itself.

Having a son with fragrance as in interest means that I have been educated in the notes that are used in each of the fragrances and where to discover the best fragrances for the notes you prefer. The top notes in Noir are violet, pink pepper, caraway, bergamot, and verbena, layering down into Tuscan iris, rose, pepper and nutmeg with a base of patchouli, amber, leather, vanilla.

The floral notes are the strongest element in this fragrance and once the scent dries down the patchouli essence is prominent. While I have described the scent as floral, it does not mean that this takes away from the masculinity of the fragrance, it is in no way feminine but for women who prefer the stronger tones of a male fragrance it is a versatile fragrance that they could wear too.  If you are looking to layer your scent it will match well with fragrances with vanilla, brandy or rum notes.

The sillage is good, leaving a pleasant scent as it evaporates, and the spray produced has a strong projection. My son used 4 pumps and each one had equal projection and the power was not lost at all.

I would say that the fragrance is for a confident mature male. I say confident because the scent will not be for everybody, and it will take a man comfortable in their own skin to wear what they like! The scent lasts well on the skin and smells better on skin than the sample paper you get in a department store. Personally, I see this scent as a daily scent for the professional male in the office or an evening fragrance for a special occasion. The initial strength of the fragrance mellows into a more subtle tone, but I like that.

This would make an ideal Father’s Day gift for the man that already has everything. The men’s fragrance industry has moved a long way from the Brut and Old Spice gift sets that sat alongside new socks each Father’s Day! The male grooming industry has skyrocketed and so have the expectations of men! Therefore, by gifting this premium scent to show your Dad love and appreciation on his special day will certainly make him smile.
