The Humphrey’s Tales books are a much shorter read than the original Humphrey books, an ideal length for a new independent reader as it keeps their interest and the pace of the book is fast and engaging.
Humphrey is a school hamster, and this series of books details his mini adventures, with some amusing illustrations and generally not too many words on a page. This makes it less intimidating for less confident readers.
In this story, Humphrey goes home with Richie, to help him with his science project. The adventure starts when Richie’s very bouncy puppy bounds in and threatens to spoil all their hard work.
My daughter thought this book was funny, she liked the pictures and has asked me to buy some more of the Humphrey books for her.
As a parent, I really enjoyed reading the book with my daughter. It is the first ‘grown up’ (no colour pictures, more text than illustration) book I have read with my daughter, and I was surprised how much she enjoyed it. A lovely, gentle but funny step onto the next ‘level’ of reading.
