What a fantastic couple of hours we had with the family at Stockport Plaza watching Sleeping Beauty starring Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters as Carabosse the Wicked Fairy.
The live orchestra were playing as we entered the theatre and found our seats, this made it extra magical for the younger children as there were different theme tunes from popular well-known movies being played.
The cast were fabulous, all of them had great energy and vibes which were well matched to their individual characters, from singing and dancing to the beautiful and colourful outfits, each character interacted with the audience and created a happy fun feeling right throughout the theatre.
The cast all looked as if they were having such a great time on stage, which really shone through and turned the theatre into a bit of a magical party atmosphere. The children loved it when the cast threw sweets into the audience, this was a huge win.
The show was amazing; the lighting and scenery all came together nicely, and scene changes were smooth and perfectly done, the children hardly noticed them, it was all so very clever.
Sleeping Beauty has and always will be our family favourite. The story was told well, in keeping with traditions whilst including lots of light hearted banter for the older children and adults to make it fun for all the family. My family and I really did have the best time watching Sleeping Beauty, it lifted our spirits and gave us even more excitement than we already had in our bellies for Christmas.
The role of Princess Aurora was performed with grace and charm, perfectly embodying the innocence and beauty of the character.
The wicked fairy Carabosse had cast a spell on Sleeping Beauty as a baby and she could now only be awoken by true love, a handsome Prince and ‘loves first kiss’!
Wendi Peters really played her role and had the children booing when she came on and even at the end when the children booed she had light hearted banter with them and the children loved it.
The children really loved the lilac fairy played by Nancy Doubledee, they all clapped and cheered when she arrived on stage.
Princess Aurora was played by Rafaela Jasmine, she played her part perfectly and engaged with the audience when dancing having the children jumping from there seats to join in.
Prince Florizel was played by Daniel Breakwell, the scene where he battles the dragon to save Princess Aurora was his best scene for the children, his braveness shone through and the children booed until the dragon left and clapped when he got rid of the dragon. Everybody loves a brave Prince in a fairy tale!
My older child really loved Jangles the Jester played by Scott Gallagher, his light hearted banter had the audience laughing clapping and shouting with joy.
We were all up dancing and clapping our hands and felt like we were part of the show. This exceptional cast were extremely skilled at bringing their characters to life with passion and skill.
This theatre is a beautiful building which has been around for many years. It is central to all public transport and plenty of parking is close by. There’s also an option to donate money towards the upkeep of the theatre when you watch the show as they have donation boxes dotted around the theatre.
Overall, I would highly recommend attending this production of “Sleeping Beauty.” It is a delightful experience that appeals to audiences of all ages, whether you’re a long-time fan of this fairy tale or seeing it for the first time. The combination of stunning visuals, talented performances, and beautiful music makes for an unforgettable evening at the theatre.
It was the best sleeping beauty we have seen so I would definitely rate it 5 stars!
This production is a testament to the power of storytelling and the magic of a live performance, leaving the audience with a sense of wonder and joy long after the curtain falls. Don’t miss the chance to witness this enchanting tale come to life on stage!
