The best Travel Mug around!

As we are all moving towards more sustainable, and environmentally conscious purchases this Christmas this is one purchase that you can rely upon, which offers a stylish option whilst being affordable, practical, and truly keeps your drinks warm!

The SHO Calix range uses Vacuum Technology, which they say keeps liquids hot for 6 hours and cold for 12 hours. I did think this would be a strong claim as the lid does not totally close, however whilst trialling it I can confirm that it does keep your drink “piping hot” for 4 hours and warm (drinkable) for the next 2 hours, so yes, keeping it warm for 6 hours is an accurate record of time.

With a “drinking slot” (non-sealing mouth shaped slot, to drink from (think one-sure high street chain drink cups) to which you drink from makes this not suitable to be thrown in your bag. However, I had it in my “Mum Bag” side pocket for the sport runs and it did not leak as my rucksack was upright on my back, and then on the floor when we finally located the correct Football pitch. But it is not a leakproof cup!

The cup fits perfectly in car drink holders, and a “high street chain drive thru” were happy to refill this for me, as part of their “money off for use of reusable cups”. So, it saved me some money! A gift that keeps on giving!

I have not put ice in the cup, to confirm it can keep drinks cold for 12 hours, however I did fill it up with water over night for a drink beside my bed, and in the morning still tasted fresh and crisp! So, I would imagine this would be a brilliant cup for iced coffees as well as traditional squash.

My cup is now a regular feature on my desk at work, and as it is easy to clean between drinks. Although it is made of stainless steel, I found that once I had “drunk my hot drink” I could rinse the cup and wash it, and use it with a cold drink next, without any heat being retained.

One thing I don’t like from using reusable cups is the retaining of smell; I love coffee, stronger the better, however my husband does not like coffee or the smell! Which oftens means we cannot use the same travel / reusable cups as he can “still taste or smell” the coffee. However, this did not. There was no staining, marking or smell after even a rinse through or a deep clean. So even coffee lovers and haters, can share the joy! Although my husband has added this to his Christmas list now as he would like his own!

Due to the design of the cup it makes it really easy to clean, with a push on-push-off lid, which has not hidden ridges or requires you to take the cup apart to get to all the parts.

When you get the cup, it clearly states that “caution when hot”, so it would be prudent to add that due to the use of stainless steel around the “drinking slot” you need to be cautious not to drink immediately when pouring boiling water into the cup, so this wouldn’t be a cup for the short car journey. Although when running late I did pour my “lukewarm” morning coffee into the cup, and it did stay the same temperature and was drinkable on the school run!

On the website (https://shoreusable.com/products/sho-calix) you are able to choose what pattern and colour you would like, and also have the choice to add a “straw” lid. I chose the Matte Aqua cup, and it is stunning! The texture of the paint makes it look good on any desk or sporting field! When you make your purchase, you do not just “get a cup sent”, but the cup is well packaged and secure, and looks a lovely thoughtful gift, which does not require additional packaging – so again, supports our environmental conscious purchases. Honestly, this is not just another reusable cup. This is the only cup you need all year round.

Rating: I give this 5/5 and would recommend it for anyone! Its an ideal secret Santa gift, or one for a loved one who travels around and likes to take their “brew with them”.
