The packaging was very colourful and had lots of different designs on the back of the box to build different constructions. However, if you wanted to take this away it would defeat the project of the little boxes the rods and spheres come in, and it could have done with a little booklet with this information on so that it could be kept small and compact when travelling. We got round it by taking a picture of the back of the box on our iPad so that we didn’t have to take the box.
Having also had the Super Colour to try, we loved the fact that this set glowed in the dark. We built some designs and then waited until bedtime to see what they looked like in the dark. The kids loved this and kept them glowing in their rooms overnight.
The manufacturer says this set is suitable for ages 3-99. I think 3 is a little young as even with support it was very fiddly and the pieces are quite small to manipulate. The 5 year old really enjoyed the challenge though as he likes creating and making things, it could potentially be tricky for some. The 3 year-old wanted to join in but struggled and became frustrated quite quickly with it. The teenagers enjoyed it for a little while.
It’s a great little set and would be fantastic to take away on holiday as they come in little plastic boxes, although we found it very tricky to get back in the box – as soon as you put the balls in the sticks they all jumped out towards the magnetic balls. It took a while to find a way to stop this from happening. It is however great for fine motor skills, coordination, and concentration, and does get your brain working and thinking about the different options and ways to connect the pieces together. Although it is a one person game I think you could have a lot of fun with it and see who could build the same design in the quickest time.
I would recommend this product to children 8 plus it’s a great game and there are lots of different things you can make with the set. I loved the little boxes it came in and it wouldn’t take up much space when travelling. I did think the price was a little steep though for what it was, but I think a lot of fun will be had with it over the holiday and the 5 year old love connecting them and pulling them apart and letting them pull back together again as they got near each other.
The designs on the back of the box are clear to follow, and you can make loads of different designs. GeoMag Supercolor is 100% Recycled the practical storage boxes that keep the rods and spheres in neatly, the rods are also made of 100% recycled plastic. I like that they have recycled as much as they can to make this game. I would Rate this product 4/5 as the glow factor gave the kids some excitement before bed.
The cost of this product is £19.99 on Amazon at the time of the review, which was at the time of reviewing this, so £10.99 less than the Super Colour one. We had lots of fun building the different designs and making our own. We are going to take it on our holiday as it’s small and won’t take up a lot of space and will be a nice game to play in the evenings as a family, as even though it’s only for one player, you could set challenges and see who can build in the quickest time.
