As the sun set on Partridge Lakes the atmosphere felt tense, all was silent apart from the distant screams of terror, coming from somewhere across the picturesque lake. We were about to embark on the Halloween Lakeside Terror Trail, which is only recommended for those brave enough to wander into the night, knowing that unthinkable ghosts and ghouls lurk there waiting to terrorise their next victim. We entered a dark teepee and were given an onscreen back-story about a nearby prison, where there had been a revolt of the prisoners, who the panicked guards executed in a bid to restore order. Their bodies had been dumped in the lake and it is said that in the dead of night, their bitter and tortured spirits arise to claim fresh victims; those brave enough or stupid enough to enter the trail at night!

This was part of the Partridge Lakes Horror trail, we’d arrived at the site early to explore everything on offer and make the most of the experience and we were not disappointed. We found a picture-perfect autumn set-up of tents and yurts, cute little fire pits and heaters, a variety of food vans offering yummy food and drinks at reasonable prices and cosy seating and blankets. With the sun going down a live singer – Chris Barnes, took to the stage with his guitar and provided an acoustic soundtrack for a chilled evening ahead……or was it to be a chilling evening…..
Back to the trail and we entered at our own risk, already on edge with the unknown looming ahead we took tentative steps as we could hear the screams of those ahead of us. The trail had been thoughtfully planned out, with scary characters providing plenty of jumpy moments and surprise appearances. The trees and woodland around us had been decorated with an array of spooky decorations, figures, lights and sound effects. It was a fun and exciting experience. The actors were fantastic, staying in character and reacting to us as we passed by. The trail took around 20 minutes to complete and ended in a witch’s lair; complete with a seating area, bar and evidence of everything a witch might need for her potions and spells.

The trail is accessible for those aged up to 14 until 7:30pm, after which, is adults only. Families can however access everything else on site at any time, free of charge. As an adult, I thought this was an awesome way to spend an evening with friends and have all the fun of Halloween that we grown-ups don’t often get to have! As a Mum, I would love to bring my family here for the earlier time slots. The event had everything and you can make it as scary as you like.
We enjoyed food from the vans and a mulled wine. There was a whole range of food from pizza to Halloumi burgers and ice-cream. There was also a wishing line where you could attach your wish or spell on a ribbon and you can enjoy s’mores by the fire. The staff were so helpful, friendly and welcoming which added to the warm atmosphere even in the cold weather.

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. Tickets cost £20 each for both children and adults, you must book your timeslot in advance and parking can be pre-booked for £5. The trail is located at Partridge Lakes in Culcheth in Warrington and is easily accessible by car with close links to the M6 and M62.
