It is starting to feel a lot like Christmas!  And that means I have started to think about the huge amount of food and alcohol I need to buy for Christmas week as well as all the presents I need to get!  So I was very lucky to be able to try Bushmills 10 Year Old Whiskey and PASQUA Hey French You Could Have Made This But You Didn’t white wine and see if they would work as bottles to have for guests to enjoy or as gifts.

First the white wine.  PASQUA is a well known Italian producer (dating back to 1925) and Hey French You Could Have Made This But You Didn’t definitely intrigued me.  As soon as you see the label you double take to check what it says.  It is a quirky label for a quirky wine!  The label would definitely appeal to people who like tongue in cheek jokes but I think it would also be great for people who love French wine as it will definitely get them talking!  It is a white wine made from the five best vintages of the decade (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) as well as 3 grape varieties (Gargenega, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc).  It is £32 normal price which is a lot but I think it is worth that amount. This is a special occasion wine – great for gifting someone or for drinking round the table with many people this Christmas.  It has a cork with yellow wax over the top so the whole opening of the bottle is in itself an event!  When it was opened it smelled delicious – floral and lemony and it made you want to taste it!  But this is a wine for savouring. You almost need to have several sips before you start to get all the different flavours coming through (lemon, almonds and chamomile to name a few) and it is lovely and easy to drink all on its own.  But there is also a minerality in the flavour which means it would be perfect to have with a cheese board this Christmas!

Then the whiskey! Bushmills is a Northern Island distillery and is the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery stretching back to 1608.  Their 10 Year Old Whiskey arrived in a beautiful turquoise coloured presentation tin (which perfectly matches the bottle) and instantly makes me feel like it is perfect as a gift.  This whiskey has won many awards including being the winner of the Best Irish Single Malt Whiskey at the 2007 World Whiskey Awards so I was really excited to try it! When I opened the bottle I was surprised at how much tropical fruit I could smell as well as a lovely hint of vanilla and honey.  I poured a small amount into a glass and added a few cubes of ice.  Even before I tried it I thought it was really appetising as the colour is a gorgeous gold colour and the smell was amazing.  Taste wise it was really delicious. For any whiskey lovers out there this is a real treat!

These are two very different bottles of alcohol which would both make either great gifts or a lovely option to have during Christmas week.  The only issue with gifting them is that then you won’t be able to taste them for yourself!

Rating: 5/5 for both the wine and the whiskey!
